Now that Admiral has a nice customer base of scooby owners it seems that it has decided to rip people off with their renewal premiums.
Had mine this morning and it,s gone up from £520 to an amazing £1200.

Has the SIDC got round to arranging it,s own insurance yet or anyone got any ideas where to go for a cheaper quote.

I,m 37 , max no claims , 1 speeding conviction.

Any ideas welcome.

Admiral are a bunch of tossers.

I am paying £1600.00 for my premium, I went with them out of desperation. If they even THINK about increasing that premium, they will have one less customer.

I am with admiral and its due 12/2/00. Just had the renewal £591, last year is was £550. Whats going on ? Mines a MY98 UK spec, with exhaust mod and quickshift (both declared) and class 1 business and father to drive. I know insurance has gone up accross the board. I am quite happy (relatively ) with my renewal but I now seem to be in the minority. Best other quote was 815 quid, no business use, me to drive only.

Dont understand this.Just spoken to Admiral and was told rise was due to Personal circumstances, postcode, and type of car.
Funny this as none of the above have changed since last year.

I was with Admiral until my last renewal. The quote went up from £800 to £995 for my MY93 WRX. I bombed them off after they gave a load of excuses about how they had "under-estimated this particular vehicle". I now use Adrian Flux who gave a very good deal. I believe that if you have a scoob and can prove you use another car most of the time (eg work) you can get up to 60% discount!! Worth looking at....

Hi Chip,
I do sympathise with you and cant understand it myself. I was all geared up to hunt for a new insurer as I expecting a renewal of £800 minimum.

Is yours a jap import ie STi or WRX ?

cheers

Read my other post re admiral in another guys rant re the insurance company.
Basically the company have or are being bought out and need to balance the books pdq, so are doing this by hitting renewals hard.

I used Keith Michaels for my STi 3 5dr- £1093 - I told the dealer I wouldn't buy the car if he couldn't get me insurance for less that £1000 so he paid the difference!.
London E2 parked on the street.
32 no convictions - Girlfriend to drive, 31
Everyone was surprised at work (but then they have no idea about scoobs - all Merc and Saab drivers).
Although I was with Woolwich car insurance on my old Granada 2l 1990 - they tried to put it up to £900 from £458 - no change in circumstances - I think they might be targeting certain areas and say well we don't mind loosing those customers cause they live in a high risk area, so they hike the premiums up !
Just an idea

Question

Why do you all pay soooo much for insurance. Myself £580, 1993 wrx, 27yrs old , 1 named driver with full no claims. This price is the same for an STi. It will cost me £200 more when I get my EVO. Bell Direct are who I, and many others here use. They know all the import types and don't load for the "normal" modifications either

Tim.
What is the situation regarding modifications to your car?

Admiral are crap by the way. Wouldn't even entertain my Terzo.
That after accumulating 6yrs NCB which I had protected and guaranteed on my Merc!

Thumbs down

I think Admiral are becoming Scooby un-friendly.

When I ordered my Turbo in July 1999 they wanted £800 fully comp with no ncb.

When I came to get a policy in Jan this year they wanted £2000!!!! No change in details.

I shopped elsewhere.

Sympathys Chip,

You and the other posts have got me nicely worried. I'm with Admiral bog std MY99, garaged, Surrey. £440 last year - due early March - this year its a lottery!

I'm another that would be interested in joining some form of bulk buying discount insurance (with known quality of cover etc)

I don't expect to be anywhere near as lucky with my premium next year

Bell Direct is a sister company of Admiral (they even use the same layout for the paperwork - which probably means they're using all the same back-end systems).

Bizarely enough whilst Admiral is getting slated for crap premiums, Bell Direct (who I went with) give some of the better premiums.

Yeah , could you dig out the number for me. I take it NFU is the farmers union,if so do you have to wear green wellies to get a quote from them.

Try Bennett's Elite on 0870 60 61 62 6 - they were the cheapest by quite a long way for an MY99 UK Turbo when I was phoning round in December (also underwritten by AXA).

Wink

Try Kwik Fit, they might be crap for tyres etc. but they're cheap for insurance (for me anyhow).

Cheers
