Scooby for track days
#1
Want to buy an older Impreza for projects and track day fun
Could I get an old 93/94 model for about £5k? I'm not fussed about bodywork, interior tattiness etc. Is it worth looking at auctions for some older part exes perhaps..?
Then I'm going to do some select mods to get the power up and have some fun on the track!
Where can I find out more on what I should be looking for, and where to start with modifying? Don't mind doing a lot of DIY on it.. it won't be a daily driver!

Is that the one with the same engine as the Impreza? Tempting, but would like turbo+4WD etc Don't mind spending £5k on a car and then the rest as I get it..
What sort of cost is needed to get a "standard" turbo up to 300+ BHP anyway? (Plus the other essentials like brakes! )

John,
Legacy Turbo comes with 4WD,...and 197bhp...should be easy enuff to raise that with the money yer talkin about...your only gonna be spending 1.5k - 2k for a half decent Leg anyway..use the rest on mods!

depends whether you want to drive it to the track or stick it on a trailer. also, for that money you could have a lot of fun in a westie or a caterham.
The scoobs are fun on track - but are expensive. Normal scoob components will break fairly quickly. I would upgrade the brakes before upgrading the power since it will make you a lot faster on the track if you can brake hard and consistently hard.
I find that you can only run a scoob on an airfield (higher speeds) track for a maximum of about 20 mins before things start getting too hot and the brakes fade.
The import cars work quite well on track because they have lower gear ratios.
Don't spend money on fancy wheels. Just get on down to the scoobynet for sale forum and buy lots of 17" standard wheels - best to have more than two full size spares to take to trackday because a bit of heavy driving can go through-to-the-seam on SO2's in a matter of hours.
roll cages and harness are great - but very very hard to get road insurance for.
hope this helps, anyone (dis) agree?
