Yoza you tart.
Evo's don't blow up. If you want to worry about reliability then look no further than an Impreza. There are countless Scoobies that have big end failure, mine was one of them. When I went to pick it up there were three cars in the workshop for rebuilds that had suffered the same problem. We were all kept waiting weeks for the crankshafts to arrive from Japan!
I am not saying that the Evo is unburstable because it isn't. If you modify it correctly and check the fueling on a dyno then you will be o.k. Just do your research and all will be fine.
If you go for an evo then you won't look back. £500 gets a Power Engineering remap, £200 gets an induction kit and £500 gets you a fully de catted exhaust. This set up will give you 350 bhp....bargain.
Regards
MR6
The scooby is the new RS Turbo. With the exception of the P1 or a late STI,it's had it's day. Call me an evo snob but they are real max power material, I wouldn't drive one anymore. Sad

Yoza,
I was thinking roughly the same thing myself. I should have bought myself a 300zx to play in and a sensible cheap to run 4 door saloon as a family car. Starting to regret buying the scoob. Nasty interior (as standard that is) and not as exciting to drive as a big RWD Jap turbo. Gotta admit that i never considered the EVO ... it wasn't practical enough for my needs.

Mr-6 Evos do blow up.........often,
Look on MLR site to see how many do,Ive asked the question as to why,and have been told not to worry about it,if its an unmodded car, which mine will be.
The ones that blow up are over-modded or not serviced properly from what I can gather.

You pays your money...
Had 3 reliable Impreza Turbos in the past (1st one 07 April 1994). Got a WRX now - no hassles, delighted with it. Never considered an Evo and not regretted the decision. Almost 160,000 trouble free Scooby miles. I'm happy. :-)

TO be honest, I'm thinking that too. Trouble is, who will buy a MY01 WRX now that the MY03 is out. Still, better get it modded to 280bhp, that should make me love it again

Yoza, I have a friend who works at 'warrender' in barnton nr warrington. I have lost count of the number of times he has had problems with the Evos as compared with the Scoobs. He has NEVER encountered a major problem with a scoob.
Dont get me wrong - Evos are a serious bit of kit however I could not have got a second hand decent EVO for new WRX money and TBH they create the wrong impression for what I was looking for.
I dont know how you paid for yours but the finance deals that I got with Subaru (5 % ) made the monthly payments cheaper than a mondeo. You made the right choice m8 just get rid of that ironing board attached to your boot and get yourself a decent spoiler!
Oh and once you get that ECU re-mapped you will not look back....

if my memory serves me right at the sidc day at donny thwere were 4 evos on track of which
1) clutch went
2) gearbox lost a couple of gears
3) turbo
4) trouble free
now i know at least 1 scoob had a problem but when comparing nos. i think the scoob had the better reliability record
anyway dose anyone know the comparable costs of a replacement gearbox for either a scoob or evo

Like I said, if it's modded properly (and serviced) then there won't be any trouble. As for clutch's...Well that's down to the driver.
If you get one, you won't keep it standard

After sitting in an EVO VII FQ-300 I am very pleased to have a WRX.
Good grief people say Imprezas have bad interiors, that was awful, the outside was nasty, the inside was worse and the driving psosition for me was impossible to live with!
Sorry if you like it but for £30k I would also expect a stereo (), unliess EVO is going the way BMWs used to be!

Just back after putting 250 miles on mine today! Longest drive in my Fugly yet, chuffed to bits! It's faster than I'll ever need in the big bad place outside SN called reality. Full de-cat and it sounds the mutts nuts, turns heads and even the tw@t in the 106 who fancied playing chase through traffic made me smile.
I always buy new so an E6 is out of the question for my budget, don't even want to think about getting a service done twice as often. It was a sh1te looking car as standard but I'm happy with what I've done to mine. IMHO the 03 WRX is even worse looking as standard. Fair play to any of you who can afford to be so damn picky and have to have the latest toy.
BEW chuffed with his, better than my MY00 and will keep it for a while yet!

I'm another one that loves my WRX and have to say that I couldn't have afforded to buy a new Evo at the time (And probably still couldn't now!!)
If you want ride comfort stick to your Scoob but if you want a harsher ride get an Evo!! (I've been out in Andys modded Evo 6 RSX and the performance is something else though. Also, been out in an Evo 7 with 18's and lowered suspension.Ride is WAY too hard on the 7 though!!!)
What about an X-Type???? lol

Yoza, dont do it ,even though my car (MY01) is doing my fu#king head in at the moment,(New turbo required under warranty)and i had to re-connect my actuator that wasnt fitted back on by the main dealers it still is a great car.Nick is right about the Evo 6 or 7 the ride makes your fillings come loose, and they pull into petrol stations on there own (Andys Evo 6 is stunningly quick)but so is the rate the fuel gauge moves and if you think Subarus are expensive to service wait until you go to Mr Mitsubishi.

I have had nothing but joy from my scoob. Dont get any detonation(NF+Optimax), have a nice Apexi FMIC and Fujitsubo exhaust, HKS induction and generally beat the crap out of EVO 6's which are menat to have 330-340 bhp.

Not quite what was asked but here goes....
Fancied changing my WRX01 in the summer. Really really fancied an Evo, and spent a long time checking around for a 6 (pref TME) around the 24k mark.
Went to test a new STi7 and bought that instead. Nothing to do with reliability, as the WRX had only ScoobySport back box, the STI is staying standard (apart from maybe PPP), and so would the Evo.
I could n't justify the servicing intervals and mpg. The scoob ain't great but at least I get 20 something from it.
Just out of interest, I would n't entertain buying a modded car, mainly because I am a mechanical retard, but surely resale value suffers as a result. i appreciate that there are many people on here, and on the MLR who are very competant in this area, I'd just struggle trying to explain what the thing actually does.
Anyway, there 's a reply from someone who just puts petrol in it and drives it, leaving all the techy work to the local main dealer.
