Sorry to hear that mate. It just make me so I'll keep my eye out for it.
It's getting to the stage where I want to fit my own security devices. I'd like to fit one of those flame throwers. They use them in South Africa a lot. A huge flame comes out from the side of the car. Not only will it stop people from stealing your car but you also get a nice cooked crook
I'm going to start hiding my keys when I leave them in my house.
I hope you get it back.

Craig,
Sorry about the car. I don't live far from you. What security did you have? Have you any idea who it was? Was it garaged?
I'll tell you how to fit a cheap and sneaky immobiliser if you get another one.
Always hide or sleep next to your keys, always lock yourself in when your in the car and I hate to say it, but don't make it look like an STi.

Damn shame,
Makes me mad. I m thinking of fitting the newest SOuth African device where two large swords are fitted under the car and swipe together cutting the thiefs legs off.
Totally legal apparently. You can by a steering wheel lock in the UK that when disturbed initially lets out a 110db alarm, if you are still fiddling with it after so many seconds the thing turns into a Taser and crackles and emits 50,000 volts and gives you the biggest electric shock you have ever experienced. Apparently it is legal in the UK, it has been proved. Any one want one let me know and i will give you the email address.

Unfortunately Rob, like most of these devices, thieves have already found an easy way around it. I seem to recall having read somewhere that it took a professional car thief about 15 secs to remove it.
What scares me most is that they are willing to break in to your house after the keys. It's all well and good having a car you know may get broken into or damaged, but when you've got a wife and kids the thought of someone breaking into my house in the middle of the night is enough to stop me having a nickable car, however much I would love and can afford to have one.

True but I bet in that test the car thief was already told what device it was. I think it sounds like a great idea could I have their email address please.

I agree, makes you sick really. I mean what would happen if you put up a fight or they walked into the wrong room and disturbed your kids. I know that people say just give them the keys and dont have a go but I can tell you if someone startled me in the middle of the night I would instinctively lump them one if I could.
Human reaction is to protect yourslef.
I think the only thing for it is to leave a Pit Bull in the front seat.

The thief wasn't aware of the device in question. If you wan't a steering lock I would suggest a disklock, no siren but very, very difficult to remove.
Rob, you would end up getting done for assault the way things work nowadays.

Craig,
Why cant the b@st@rds just go and get a real job like everyone
else has to!
All you can hope is they have a fatal accident a couple of miles
down the road. I guess I would feel sorry about losing the car
and damaging the tree!
Was the car....
Garaged / Driveway / On Street
CAT1 / CAT2 / Tracker
Its not worth hiding the keys as they will just come and ask you
for them.
I'm now thinking about increasing my car and house security!

I'm surprised people thought it was your car -- can't see why someone called Craig would want a numberplate that says Dan, though that should make it easier to spot (providing the plates haven't been changed yet )

Has anybody hidden a kill switch underneath the dash. I had one fitted to a mercury tilt switch. When they went up the first bump the car cut out.
I have also seen a removable steering wheel boss in one of the mags, any good???
Cheers

Removable steering wheels are very good IMHO but taking the wheel off wont help when they do a house break in to get keys, you'll just end up getting woken to a knife or gun
Craig
Sorry to here i'll keep an eye out down here

Sorry to hear of your m8's loss
I got stopped by a unmarked police car today, he told me a silver impreza had been stolen from stockport recently similer to mine, good to know there doing there job!
real sound officers, told me to take care and keep my eyes open as there's alot getting stolen recently!
Told him about trackback and he said that theres a increased number of gps tracking cars comming into operation within the machester/cheshire area.

No alarm or Immobiliser will do any good when they ask you, politely of course, to start the car then take it off you!!!
Not sure of the Insurance situation? I know that if a theif steals your car from the forecourt when you have left it open the Insurance company DOESNT pay up!!
What if you have started the car and let them drive it away?? how would you stand then?? especially if no weapon was used to threaten you - bar a fist of course!
