Good news.....well for me anyway !!

Coming home I found what I think was the Impreza that did the deed, parked off the road in a service road ( why I never saw it as I passed this am ) It has a split front rim and puncture, near side, with loads of mud inside the rim, it has to be the car.

I checked to see if was stolen, the alarm was set !! and no marks on the door or column. I took the reg and just reported it to the local plod...... also told em of my little problem this am and they are going to check it out ....... I suppose I'll here nothing but I tried !

I drove into work this am along the B4116 between Atherstone and Furnace End a quick B road by any standards but a few adverse cambers and 1 or 2 tight blind bends but otherwise open and flowing....It was dark ( about 6:15) absolutly throwing it down with loads of suface water, I was doing about 50 due to the rain then in my mirror I noticed a car gaining quite quick with lights on main beam, I took little notice at first ( I was watching where I was going !) but as it got closer I realised he was obviously travelling at quite a pace. It dipped it's lights as it approached to within 20m or so .... pratt I thought and then as we both approached one of the tighter blind bends he just pulled out... I braked hard as the light from another set of lights came around the corner, the idiot just managed to get back in throwing stones and mud off the bank as he got it out of shape throwing it back in.....cracking my screen and I've not been out in the daylight to check the new PIAA lights or bodywork. He then flashed his hazard lights as if to say sorry oh and the car.....another Impreza. If I'd managed to get the plate I would of posted it for sure, got to be the worst stunt I've seem pulled in the last year or two.

How much are screens

this is happening more and more on the roads.

is it that the price of older impressas are now affordable to the younger boy racer club.

is it going to give the scooby driver a bad name?

hope not but we but it looks like its going that way.

cheers

Kev,

I don't know how much Scooby Screens are but if you've only got a chip then your insurer should pay for it to be 'filled-in' at Autoglass without affecting your NCB. (My insurer - Norwich Union.)

Daz,

I agree - there was one guy last week in a black WRX - P*** PVR (incidentally with a sewage-pipe exhaust offset to the middle of rear) as I was travelling from Hangar-Lane to Chiswick and he 'got all excited' (driving erratically) when he saw another Scoob. He was a young guy, poss. about 19 and shouts across "your car's nice innit?" and speeds across lanes, etc... I just thought - get lost you prat, you're an embarassement!

The only way this will stop is maybe if the insurers just did NOT insure anyone under the age of say 25 on car with an insurance group higher than 16.

Well, I still love my Scoob (even after paying for an engine rebuild) and will find it hard to find another car with so much character and performance at the price it is! I don't wanna have to change just because some ***** are now driving around in them (like *****).

What can we do?

Rich.

I too have experianced this type of behaviour on roads local to yourself. My windscreen is still cracked (£400 autowindscreens). Why is it there are so many t*****s driving like this. Had two idiots in a Escort estate trying everthing to pass me today on the way through Lea Marston to Kingsbury.

Paul...

Local lad then ! don't seem to see many about..
Even on the recent MIRA day with Don Palmer I attended I drove five of us to a local pub for lunch and we had a prat in a vectra ( need say no more !) breaking his neck to get past, in the end we let him past.....made his day I suspect..

I did have a call today from the local plod about the dumped / parked scooby, it was there all night ..... according to the owner, mmmmmmm I know I would never leave mine down a quiet lane, busted rim or not but as I can't be 100% sure there's nothing I can prove or do .

Looks like I'll have to put it down to bad luck .... about time they started putting age limits to bhp output or engine cc, might stop these idiots gettin hold of serious motor's IMHO !

Kev,

Be ultra careful with autoglass. Only speaking from experience but I had a really bad 'fit' done 18 months ago, (rear quarter on my previous car). Wrong tint, leaking and months of aggro to get it sorted.

Good luck with repairs!

Oi! Don't tar us all with the same brush please! I'm 20, and I can safely say I have never pulled a stunt like that. Yes I drive quickly, but I try to have respect for other road users (even when they don't have any for me). Age to group/power limiting is NOT the way to do it. If you want to get better drivers, TRAIN 'EM! Don't let them in a performance car until they've passed a 'performance test'. I know people twice my age who are abysmal drivers.

Reza if you think that's bad I had 'two' idiots overtake me in a 30mph zone this weekend .

I passed the two plonkers as they sat parked in a layby , they saw me , gave me a toot then proceeded to follow me up the road and overtake me at very high speed . I was doing 30mph .Then guess what , the idiots then turn around at the next junction to go past me again and re park where they were first at !!

ps
yes they wearing baseball caps .

I'm driving for about 5 years, I have a two years NCB, and the only Impreza I can insure is a 1.6!. I'm always getting tail-gated,cut-up by Micas or Feastas!!! I could not think of a turbo until I'm 30!!!! acccording to theinsure company. And don't mention a wrx import!

Like the other night, I came out a junction and was driving down the road, when a 1 litre staret!! came right up behind me and trys to under take me. WHY!!!, its a 50MPH limit and I was doing just over 55, (I know, I know). The road comes to some bad bends at the end and it was wet,Now we all know how the Impreza handles (even the FWD one!) all I heard was slaming on of brakes, what I ****!

this little **** is the reason I can't insure a Impreza turbo! *****!!!

sorry about the rant, I get upset when you UK people go on about insurance! would you like to change places and not have a turbo or the option of getting one?

cheers

"Beef"...

OK I've cooled down a bit now !! You are correct really, as I've always said they teach you to pass a test not how to drive, that comes in time.

A performance test would be good idea, but at what point or age would you bring it in ?

I now what you mean about " mature " drivers, boy are some of them a risk to other road users ...... went a small drive yesterday and encountered a real looney, about 70 who I did'nt even think could see any other drivers !!

Beef,

I couldn't agree with you more, I'm 23 and have just bought a Sapphire Cosworth, only to have it written off by a t**t in a van who left the scene and can't be traced . That's my no claims gone and I'll never be able to reinsure any decent car this time next year.
I think a 'performance car' test is a good idea but I know people much older than me who will never own a performance car because they don't want a dangerous, expensive car etc. and are much more dangerous in a 1.2 Nova than me in my now defunct Cosworth.

I have to agreee with Beefs comments as I'm also in his age bracket, I'm 21, and have had some training by professional instructors at the loacal Transport research lab in Crowthorne. Until you've been told what the dangers are of driving a high performance car I agree should not be "let loose" in one.

The statistics never lie and on the many occasions that I've experienced "horrendous" road manners and driving it's often been someone aged 17-25 driving the car, usually 1m from your rear bumper, trying to overtake you in a 30 zone!!!! Honestly it has happened, in a 30 zone, 4 lads younger than me, in a Fiesta trying to overtake as I slowed for some speed bumps. I was in a MY97 at the time and had to mount the kerb so that they would avoid hitting an oncoming car! They should have been grateful I was aware of the situation and took avoiding action or else I'd have been sending flowers to someones funeral.
