I've got the optional 18 inch o.z wheels on my P1 with p-zeros (225/35's). I previously had a Uk 4 door with eibach springs and 17's with Goodyear F1 rubber.
I'm just getting used to the P1's handling, but i'm finding it alot more nervous, and unable to smooth out any bumps like my old scoob did, and it doesnt feel as planted on the road.
I've decided that this could be down to a number of reasons:
1, Lower profile tyres.
2, Crap p-zeros (had them for a while on my old car and didnt like 'em then. Seem to need alot of temperature in them for any grip)
3, The P1's suspension characteristics or stiffer 2 door shell(?)
4, I'm going alot quicker than i was before!
5, I'm just crap!

I dont really want to loose the 18's, but was thinking about getting different tyres and seeing if they improve things. Maybe even with a 40 profile, if they're available for 18's and will fit without scrubbing.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Steve

I replaced the 17s with 18s on mine and the ride is very slightly harsher but not much in it. I suspect your main problem is the P-Zeros, they're a ****e tyre. I have Goodyear Eagle F1s and am very happy with them - with 17s (and P Zeros that it came with) the car was skittish and noticeably understeered on roundabouts. The 18s have solved that and it looks a lot better. I understand the suspension was set up by Prodrive using 18s so this makes sense.

Only problem I have now is occasional rubbing when 4 of us in car and I'm cornering hard, but am not worried and can't be arsed doing anything about it!

good luck

When I had a play in a demo with 18s, I was surprised at how much more 'skitish' it felt over country roads, especially under braking. I also know of an owner who ran 17s for about 10K before changing and, over a stretch of country road he knew well, he said he didn't feel quite as in control with the 18s. More like he was hanging on.

Obviously there are loads of owners with 18s who swear by them, but it does seem to depend on what types of road you use most.

Having moved from 17" with P Zeros to 18" with Toyo's, all I can say is what a difference. I'm wasn't sure what it was the 18" Wheels or the TOYO's but having read this thread get yourself 240 profile TOYO's they do fit and don't rub.

From a delighted P1 owner.

Red face

I moved from the standard 16's to Prodrive 18's on my MY00. I put the 'skitish' nature down to the tyres as well( P Zeros!!!!!!!)

Have the 18's on my p1 and although it rides hard turn it is alot sharper and it is much more go-cart like. So for me was a result but passengers disagree!

I had a similar problem on my My01 WRX.

I test drove it with 17's but opted to go for the 18's when i picked it up and IMHO it doesn't drive as well with 18's on.

The 18's do make the turn in a lot sharper but in return they do make the handling a little more nervous.

Still the 18's do look the mutts nutts
