Just looking at Subaru Australia (not sure why, bored and surfing around) and I see that they get the B4 version of the legacy - why don't we get it 'officially' imported into the UK?

Looks a beauty....

It is a beauty. Something to do with local EC emissions and fuel quality (supposedly). Oh, and the small matter of IM being painful as usual....

They are good for those growing (in size and family numbers) out of the Impreza. The wagon (GT-B) is also a peach - the looks on the faces of uber metal drivers as an estate blasts past is priceless (on a track ).

Take a look at the STi S401 - on www.apexjapan.com

Wicked

Fuel quality is not an issue - Aussie fuel are either RON91 (Regular) or RON95 (Premium).
The Oz spec 'Liberty' B4 is slightly detuned when compared to the JDM versions, and it also lacks the rear wiper that's on JDM cars.
Didn't see the B4 RSK much over there, but there are lots of 2.5 litre estates there.

The Aussies have 98RON in most of the cities (distribution is supposedly set to widen), and that's one of the big reasons they got the car. In fact you are warned not to use anyhitng else for extended periods, and to avoid driving the car hard on low grade juice (at least that was the introduction & instruction I got).

ajbasebloke:

what stage emissions sytem do you run over there? if it's stage 4 or 5, it'll beat the eu emission tests.
5 being yank.

for us not to get the lovely legacys, imho it's government issues, probably quota's on no. of vehicles imported by sube uk.

I was in Sydney during the past few weeks, & RON98 isn't widely available. Anyway, fuel requirement is not an excuse of not importing the B4 RSK, as RON98 is available in UK.

In current form the Legacy would fail the EURO3 emissions tests. There is a new Legacy due next year and I should think that will make it into europe

You could always import one

Iain would know best on emissions.

I personally think they've been a bit lazy, but to keep costs down I guess they did not bother putting decent cats in...

Fingers crossed, but the next Legacy may make it to Europe in full strength form if IM can face that it will be very close to the Rex in perf...I guess they could price it for better model separation. This is becoming an issue here in Japan, as many buyers plump for the B4 over the Rex thesedays.

Cool

In standard form the Legacy failed all of the Euro3 test. On our second atempt (we used a remapped E-Tune) we managed to pass the Cold start check but still failed the driving cycle

Basically the CATs aren't quite as good as the could be but the TT Legacy does also switch turbos during a high speed run and this really effects the emissions. We're sure we could have got it to pass but in the end we didn't really need to

Cheers for that.

So basically, better mapping and decent cats, we can all enjoy. Without the uk vs import crap.

Well, I don't know if you tried (and I don't think it needs to be done) the E-tune 2 or not...that's the one running here currently (and sold in Oz in sedan form). They are supposedly much cleaner than Jecs cars (runs Denso a la new shape Immpreza) - but who knows if that is good enuff for Euro4...
