Just wondered how much additional insurance your paying for ppp , reason being Is I currently pay 730 quid for a MY00 Impreza turbo via Direct line, I spoke to them today giving full facts on the PPP upgrade and they worked out a price for me of an additional cost of 110 quid per year (Very reasonable).
The quote was broken down as follows :
Male 30 Years Old
5 Years no-claims
(Subaru Impreza Turbo MY00)
Exhaust Modification
Engine Modification
Tuning Modification.
Overall BHP gain 11%
Quote 840 per year inc protectors.
Even though I stressed that it would improve the cars performance by 20% they insisted that they could only base the cost on BHP gain and modifications to areas of the car.
Just wondered what it cost you and did you have to do anything special ?
Thanks
Maddy

I am insured with Tesco with a UK300 + PPP.
I have asked them twice on the phone about the PPP and they have told me that as it is a standard dealer fitted option (which it is now with the MY01), there is no extra charge.
I am still concerned that they dont understand, so I have written to them asking for confirmation in writing, I dont want to encounter any problems should I need to claim

Andy are they quoting you for the spoiler if you are having ppp done to the rb5 (just ppp or rb5 wr type ppp??). I'd check with them cos the glasses guide they probably are working from says engine remap, intercooler piping, stainless exhaust system and big f**k off rear spoiler.
If you're not having the spoiler then save the extra grand it looks so much better
Or buy an sti 5 spoiler and be really

Mark,
When I purchased my RB5 WR (PPP) they only had on their books a standard RB5 which had an identical quote to a standard MY99. I explained the mods and their underwriters increased the premium by £45 to £850. Tesco's insisted on a tracker being fitted so I shopped around and found RAC quoting £1006 with no need for a tracker and no premium for the mods, the policy states the car has PPP. They will also allow future mods with limited premium.
Hope this helps

If I had the dough the Spoiler would be on the list, as I explained it to the insurer they should take it as if I was getting the spoiler too so If I do get the money no probs...

When I bought my RB5. The insurance company only had one listed. Its Group 18 with or without PPP.Remember the RB5 could be ordered with the PPP fitted as standard. They do not seem to differentiate as I have never been asked if it is WR sport. Now had three years of insurance with different companies.

I am with Direct Line and have a few prodrive options on my MY98. As the parts were fitted as part of a dealers option when first purchased they said no extra charge. DL said it would be different if the options were fitted at a later date or by a non dealership. Though they did add the mods to the Insurance cert.
Cheers

This is my opinion before you flame me.
You should be aware that PPP is not a Subaru modification but an aftermarket upgrade approved by Subaru, with the RB5 WR and the UK300, the cars are registered and then modified. I contacted many insurance companies when I purchased an RB5 WR, all the insurers were quoting exactly the same premium as a standard uk MY99 and considered the PPP and spoiler as an aftermarket enhancement, some refused to even quote a WR spec.
Be very wary that you are correctly insured if a claim follows, they will do anything to wriggle out of payment where possible, even a change to alloys can invalidate insurance.

At the minute the PPP on the UK300 is carrying approx 10% load on premium via Groupama.
Norwich Union however are charging 0 - 5% increase - however their excess is higher...
At present other insurers within the broker market are struggling with price on the standard car, let alone the PPP'd ones!!

The difference with the RB5 PPP is that it was fitted before registration. Therefore the car was standard with it fitted when it arrived at the dealers and was subsequently registered.
That is why they are loaded as a group 18.
PS I have claimed on my insurance no probs. I then recovered my losses from the third party involved.

The RB5 WR I have was registered then went direct to Prodrive to be modified and then onto the registered owner via the dealer. Subaru do it this way to avoid type approval problems.

Maddy,
I do not want to hijack your topic but I have just had to pay an extra 70 quid on a premiun of about 600 just for Eibachs on an MY 99 with NU. Even so they were still miles cheaper than anyone else.

Be very wary of rb5 wr spec i had to change insurance companies because no one understood what the wr was, and when i told them and they realised what it means they wanted an extra £250 unless i could prove the car came with it before it was purchased ( i could prove this but couldn't be bothered with the hassle). Thank god for priviledge when told it was an rb5 they said "standard or prodrive sir"
