OOOOO Nasty !
Sorry to here that.
It happend to me when I was looking at buying a Sirocco when we were in BC in Canada. Luckily it was the Salesmans fault as he never put it down properly, he absolutely shat himself when it happened and I thought we were gonna go into the oncoming traffic but we like you I suppose were 'lucky' It was good for us though cause it halfed the price of the car. We bought it for £250, although it never broke the windscreen we tied the bonnet down best we could and the car did close to 10K miles around the states and then sold it for £350 near Toronto.
Ive bought a few things from www.glenburgie-subaru.co.uk up near where I live, you wont meet a nicer bloke. But postage might be the main problem for you. In fact I think he has a Silver 96 in at the moment, it has a 'prodrive drive'.
Hope things work out .

fitted my new adjustable boost controler today, took me about 3 hours to do.
so when i was finished i thought i would take the car for a spin to see what it was like.
pulled away from the house up the street and all of a sudden BANG!
my fooking bonnet flipped up smashing my windscreen and totaling my bonnet!!!!
as you can imagine i am very pissed off with myself for not making sure the bonnet was down properly
anyone got a pre-96 silver bonnet they don't want???

Have a word with Mark at IPC car imports in Bishop Auckland.
When I upgraded mine he got me a silver bonnet with all the scoops etc for £250.
It was a steel uk bonnet but that was ok as when they are off the car they feel about the same weight its not till you bolt it on that you can tell the diff.
I am sure you can use your old lights - there will be a bit of a gap but its not that big, but you may have to change the grill.
cheers

If you need any more help let me know

Jonny,
OHH Nooooo!!
There is a kit that EVOLUTION Motorsport Newcastle does to convert the front grille for new shape bonnet - but does not include bonnet.
Mark at Import Car parts is a very good bet
Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hiya Jonny,
Sorry to hear about your bonnet strife! Did you say that your pre 96 Scoob had an STi 6 I/C fitted to it? Do you have any other mods on the motor?...
The reason I'm asking is that I'm about to replace my standard pre 96 intercooler with a beefy STi5 one and was wondering if you found it a tricky job? did you need any apaptive parts/brackets etc.?... Basically, what did you do?
The rest of mine is pretty standard bar the exhaust which is from the PPP. What sort of power gains have you experienced? I'm Looking at aftermarket ECUs too, or getting mine remapped, any advice there?
Cheers
Dunc
Any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated

Ive heard it happen to a few people, on various cars, but did you leave the bonnet completely open, or where none of the catches working?? The bonnet usually will at least close onto the safety latch, even if it doesnt lock fully closed.
Never rush working on the car, as silly things like that, could turn out very dangerous. Always check everything you have done carefully, to make sure there are no tools under the bonnet, and that everything is isntalled as it should be.
I even know a friend who squashed his new mobile phone under the bonnet. He slammed it shut, and wondered why it wasnt closing right, so just pushed harder. wasnt he sick when he realized why.

Bad luck mate, I'm surprised (although very glad ) that this hasn't happened to me.
I left a spanner under my bonnet once when adjusting my Dawes MBC but I didn't find it until about two weeks later ! How it stayed under there I do not know
