Accelerating
#1
I thought the title might get you interested.
When accelerating reasonably hard and changing gear at about 4500/5000 rpm my CD player seems to jump/cut out, I've tried different CD'S but it is clearly the player.
It isn't jumping due to bumps either.
Any idea's what it could be.

Mine frequently cuts out when I accelerate hard and then change gear. When you change gear the car gos from accelerating to a fraction of deceleration as you come off the power and put your foot on the clutch then acceleration again so these changes of forces may upset the player.
The mounting of the player affects it a lot. In my old car it was flat under the passenger seat and only jumped if I hit a particularly hard bump but the player in the Impreza is mounted facing upward on the side of the boot (length ways to the car) so I think must get shaken more by acceleration and braking forces. To stop it from cutting out so much I could move it so that it is fitted across the boot but I'm not that worried about it.
Hope this makes sense.

Ah Ha!
Just had the same sort of problems.
I changed the std 6 disk Phillips unit for a Kenwood 10 disk system.
The old Phillips CD player was mounted under the ft passenger seat. The Kenwood unit would not fit in this location.
I mounted the Kewood CD player to the back seat (in the boot!) at the base of the seat just off of the boot floor. I set the damper adjustment (so i thought) to the correct setting - On the Kenwood unit it was two large plastic adjusters with screw driver slots - these are hidden under the mounting brackets on the sides of the disk unit) under any accelleration it jumped, even just gently pulling away. it hardly jumped when decellerating, braking, bumps or cornering, just on accelleration.
I adjusted it once more, it got worse! in the end i discovered there where TWO adjusters not one as i initially thought, once BOTH where set to vertical it has not jumped at all.
BTW - I also cleaned the lens/pickup with a cleaning disk although this had no effect.

I did note the winking smilies, it was only a friendly/sarcastic "thanks for you input"

I understand that no "memory" is employed in car CD players as with Walkmans & the like. Instead it employs anti-skating technology which is clearly not very good with hard suspension when placed at the extremes of the car. I have never had a player NOT jumping when located in the boot. This is the reason I stuck with the 6 disc system so as to fit it under the passenger seat - more central to the car's moment.

The my'01 comes with a kenwood cd/tape/radio headunit, and to use Dave T-S's words, a crap CD player at that.. good when you aren't pressing the loud pedal hard!
I've put a pioneer one in now, and haven't had any problems.. shying away from alpine this time.

Perhaps i should add.. as a 'supplied with the car' type cd unit is better than others before... and Kenwood do a lot of good kit, this just isn't one of their best...

Hi,
I have a Sony 10 disc changer mounted on the rear seat back, and haven't had any problems with skipping.. I should probably be attacking those speed humps harder
Cheers,
Alex
