hi guys,

been scooby hunting today just wanted some opinions on the uk and the imports.

all the wrx versions ive looked at dont have a service history!!
and i dont really know much about there pasts! all look like theve been driven hard as well.

where as today at cheam motors theres a 98 uk speck with 40.000 on the clock one owner full service history and a warenty. And they can sort out finance 4 me.

any one got any advice??

Personally I wouldnt buy a scoob without a service history. I brought my import from new and although I dont have a service book I have all the bills for all work and services. I would pay a specailist to have a good look over it before I parted with any cash if it doesnt have service history.

It all depends on what is really important to you. I suspect it would be easier to move on a uk spec car with fsh, especially to a non scooby nut, rather than an import with no history prior to its import. Insurance is easier too but smiles per £ while driving the import wins by a (s)mile! There are plenty of specialist garages who know their stuff and are willing to take your money off you so don't worry about the servicing.
Incidentally, mine's an import

Plenty of places you may even find your local Subaru dealer may be able to help servicing wise.

I would get a full service so you can keep the warrenty.

However look elsewhere for finance as you won't get the best deal at a garage for finance (unless its 0%). Speaking from experience, get the numbers written down what you will pay in total from the garage and compare it against what you will pay from a place like Cahoot. Don't immediately take what they give you for an APR as it can be misleading (when you add in fees etc.). I picked Cahoot as an example as I believe they allow early payment of the loan without any penalties!

Have a look at www.sidc.co.uk and look in the faq section. Should answer all your questions. I've only had imports and no UK cars and nothing about them has put me off. I've bought cars with history though.

Firstly grey imports/JDM cars from Japan have no subaru warranty in the UK.

Not all imports have 280PS (276bhp). It depends on the number of doors the model year and the type. The best to find out the power for a specific import is to look at sidc faq

The lowest import bhp was 220PS which was the first 5 door wagons. JDM cars tend to be better specfied ie most have air con, better interiors (for the earlier model) and obviously a bit more power as standard.

You do really need to run imports on SUL/Optimax and octane booster. An import is goping to be a bit more to insure as they are more powerful.

If its straight off the boat from Japan then any service history will be Japanese but not many have service history or books with them. You can buy handbooks though and some importers supply them as part of the deal but you pay for them .

Mine has a full history in english as I have paid for all the servicing done, so at the moment mine has records for services : 1000, 7,500, 15,000 and 22,500

Keep looking for a good one - it will turn up eventually. Not all imports are shabby, it seems there are enough of us on here with them to show that.
Keep looking m8.

pete,

the shabby ones are cheap for a reason.

I've noticed a lot of imported cars the interior seems to wear twice as quick, maybe it's the climate??
