BUMPSTEER!?!?!?!?!
#1
Does anyone know what having the bumpsteer done on an MY00 will do to it as my other half is getting it done on Saturday and I have heard that it could be a bit dodgy.
Any views would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

he know what it is but knowing what men are like when it comes to their charriots, I can't get any sense out of him, I thought the idea of "General Questions" was to be able to ask things that you aren't sure about not to be told that you are asking stupid things.

Tigger, you're not asking stupid questions!
I can't say I've found the bumpsteer fix dodgy, or heard anyone else say that it is. It's basically a tweak to the car's suspension to make it more consistent in its handling.
As you may know the only place that does it is PowerStation in Cheltenham.

I've read quite a bit about the bumpsteer mod on this forum recently (old threads) because I'm thinking about getting it done. Shouldn't affect the handling adversely, since it's really just setting up the car as Subaru designed it - involves shimming the steering rack so that the steering arms move parallel to the suspension arms rather than potentially slighlty skewed. Apparently each Scoob is different (manufacturing tolerances I guess) so they measure what size shim to use.
Part of what they do is simply tracking and camber checking and adjustment - again, to much finer tolerances than Subaru or their dealers do.
So you could just say it's blueprinting for the wheel alignment! Nothing to fear and a good cheap mod. Anyone know of a cheap hotel in Cheltenham (for taking the missus away, of course, wouldn't dream of just going there to get the mod done!)

Si,
I went to Powerstation for my MY00 and it is probably the best money I've spent on the car.
I took the missus, and we stayed in Tewkesbury (about 25mins NW of Cheltenham) on my dads recommendation.
If you want to head East/South of Cheltenham, there are loads of nice places as you are in the Cotswolds.....I think someone told me Bourton-on-the-Water was nice.
Enjoy

Cheers H - nice to get another good recommendation for the mod (particularly when I spend £54 at my last service having just the tracking and camber adjusted! Doh!)
Been to Chelters a few times and my missus has specifically asked if we can go for the weekend, so what a bonus for getting the mod done.

My humble apologies then Tigger.
I should be getting the bumpsteer mod after I get my Eibach springs fitted, so hopefully it won't do anything too dodgy to the car.
So far I've heard nothing but praise for it. The only downside for you is that you may not see your other half much as he'll be testing out the car's new dynamics.
