... in a bog (bug) standard new age impreza at a trackday circuit, e.g. Donington, Oulton Park etc.. Could you reach terminal velocity on the main straight? (Assuming little traffic, good weather etc.) Would it be comfortable or risky?

Out of interest, what speeds (indicated) do people see at the end of the Dunlop Bridge straight at Donington?
I've seen 120mph, but that was with a lot of bottling out
The back straight at Snetterton is pretty quick as well, but I've never been down it in a fast Scooby.

The only person I know who has achieved Vmax at a trackday was in a Caterham superlight - fantastic handling and 300bhp/tonne, and bounces off the rev limiter at about 125mph in top. The only way you'll achieve it is to have very short gears which artificially limit the top speed - you may be in with a chance at Snetterton in a type RA? I think Revett straight at Snetterton is your best chance in the UK, but I may be wrong.

I've seen 140 at most on the Swedish tracks (unfiddled euros see ~120 at the same track )....so there's room left still.
Trackdriving is not about straight bits though - it's the speed you can maintain through the twisties that's the interesting bit.

I agree that tracks are about the twisty bits.
But there is a certain thrill to going flat out towards a chicane or a really tight bend. Not something you would dream of doing on the road (or I wouldn't any way!).

Come and try at Bedford on the 30th November (SIDC day) it has probably one of the longest backstraights around.... I achieved 140mph there last time with the skylines getting a lot more

As has been said, you'll never max a Scoob at any UK circuit (unless it's very low-geared).
But you will at Bruntingthorpe. Just make sure you've got good brakes
Cheers,
Richard.
