warm the engine.
then put degreaser [I use gunk] on the engine, leave for a while the wash off, I use a jetwash but dont put it hard on the electrics.
start engine & let it heat up & dry

I always get engine hot first if you have a cone filter cover it up i do, and i use truck wash and jet wash off after about 5 mins then in my case i use loads off metal polish

I agree with Barge, Used "Gunk" for years, now improved, Brush on with a paintbrush, work it well into any areas that are heavily soiled, leave for 5 min`s then hose off. You really don`t need a jetwash. Cover the alternator and any sensitive electrics with old plastic bags. Then I treat mine with W.W. protector. Result everything clean, oil free, and SHINEY!
