Big well done to Michael for his 4th world title & to Ferrari for the constructors crown - all done with 4 races left.

Shuey now has equaled Alain Prosts 51 GP wins...does this make him the best driver of the modern era ?

I feel a debate coming on here....

Cool

Ro - hear, hear.

Although, "best driver of the modern era" - depends what you call the modern era! Surely, as good as Prost/Senna, but really it's impossible to say any more than that - different cars, drivers etc. etc.

Still doesn't change the fact that the race was boring as hell (again!)

Touring cars and superbikes on BBC2 were much more enjoyable.

It is difficult.
I still rate Senna as the best driver ever.
Prost probably the cleverest driver ever.
Shuey probably the most "all round" driver - he hardly ever makes mistakes & dominates like no other. He has also calmed down a lot in the last few years & matured (from his shunting days !)

Ro.

PS - Thought Barrachello (spelling?) played a blinder yesterday - really kept the pressure of Michael at the start & mid way through the race. Couldn't help but cheer when DC came out of the pits behind him.

Cool

In my book Senna and Prost were the ultimates of the day but watching Schuey since he hit the scene has been awesome and Ive rooted for him since his early Benneton days!

The man is on a completely different level of driving compared with the rest of the grid and I somehow doubt there will be anyone for a while that will come close to him (Maybe his bro)

Well done Schuey!

Would Schuey have won 4 championships had senna been alive? Thought so.

Parallel universe scenario
94 Senna
95 Schuey, maybe
96 Senna
97 I suspect senna would have retired. So maybe hill
98 mika
99 mika
00 schuey
01 schuey

so 5 DWRC to Senna, 3 to schuey.

Define the "Modern Era"

The best ever was Jim Clark...

Did I miss teh decisive grand prix of the season?

I cant believe I missed all news bulletins all weekend, relating to practice, qualifying the race and the results.

I would still watch it even knowing the results,

does anyone know exactly when it is repeated?

I thought it had been a while since the last one!

Yeh - it annoyed me a little that the news coverage in the evening was all about how Man Utd NEARLY lost to Fulham !

A world championship had been decided that day & yet ITV decide to cover a footie match with no real relevance (ITV must have paid far too much for the footie rights)

Thumbs down

used to sit up late at night with my old man watching Hunt and Lauda batlling it out wheel to wheel you could see the cars writh and twitch and and drivers fighting the cars on opposite lock
What do you see now????? scalextric for grown ups and the whole race decided on who's got the fastest mechanic/best tyres/cleverist programmer
I'm am not a reactionary it was better in my day type but as a drivers contest its a complete no show
Oh and Shumacer is of course rightfully on top but his nickname i am reliably informed from a friend who works in germany is "shmoomacker" which apparently translate as cheater (and not in the feline sense either)i still cant forgive him for deliberately shunting Damon Hill afer he had already crippled his own car trying in vane to out drive him how pathetically petty and downright dangerous was that.
As a sportsman he is a Teutonic t**t
on reflection perhaps the best place for him is out in front he's less of a danger out there.

sorry that got into a bit of a rant then

Mr angry signing off
