Doesn't the 96 only have a 51 litre tank, vs the 61 litre of the MY00?

I regularly get between 290 and 330 off a tank (only 150 on the track!).

220 / 51 = 4.31 mpl
330 / 61 = 5.41 mpl

So yes, you're still 'off' by about 1 mpl. Mind you, doesn't the '96 have a bigger turbo?

300 miles+ on 50 litres when I commute, but just 76 for a tankful at bedford. You can see the needle drop on the straights!!!! Is this a record?

The 22B does not have a bigger tank.

The later style bonnet cars are supposed to have 60 litre tanks and the older cars, 50 litres.

This has never been proven, as pats older style car has succesfully received way over 50 litres.

And I imagine a tankful of motion potion is around £40? So if my maths is correct beastie does around 12-13 to the gallon (gulp!). T5NYW gets 18-25, and octane gets 27-31! I do 500 miles a week to get to work and back! I can never get afford a scooby, boo hoo...........

Got 241 miles out of a tank, think there might have been another 5 or so in there, but did not want to risk it. Very impressed with the result though. This was half the journey to and 3/4's journey back from Birmingham last week. So was mainly motorway driving, always under the national speed limit (for unrestricted autobahns in germany ) with air con on, so I'm happy. Must say we did spend about half hour in traffic on m25 (suprise suprise)

Oh dear, the records the rcords stuck.

I regularly get 300 miles to a tank on my daily commute half over the Pennines and half in urban cycle. SUL naturally. If I haven't been flashed at by some bore I've overtaken on the way in or out, I feel somehow cheated.

I take no risks, I know the roads and will happily hold back until an opportunity (within the speed limit) presents itself. Contrary to findings that the authorities (and saints preserve us "Transport" 2000) keep quoting about speeding, boy racers etc. I am finding depressingly increasing numbers of dithering gets driving about like incompetent lemons. Does that make them limes?

Sorry lads I was tongue in cheek at the top. I usually get around 280 to 300 miles from a tank.
If I have a serious play it drops to 180 miles/tank.

Question

I would love to know how to get nearly 300 miles to a tank. I have tried everything, driving like a flat cap man, fast motorway, steady motorway, steady urban, silly speed urban and the best i have had is 220 to a tank. 96 UK turbo minor mods.

my old MY99 would give me 30mpg driving between 60-75mph. This would drop to 15-18mpg in town and overall averaged at 20ish mpg (220 to 240 miles on a tank).

Adam - Does a 22b not have a bigger tank. AFAIK the majority of tanks are 55 litres, but some are 65. Anyone care to validate that?

I got exactly 290miles in my UK300 . I know this because I filled up to go to Newquay from Kent. Light came on as I arrived. Had 3 passengers and full luggage in boot. Car had just been run in and I wasn't going slow on the motorway.

Recently did a 160 mile motorway journey from Kent to Lincolnshire. I used just over 3/4 of a tank on the way up.

My speedo cable broke while was up there which caused the engine to limit to 4500rpm on the way back and I managed the 160 miles on just under 1/2 a tank!

Most of the time I get just over 200 miles to just under a tank. 95 WRX

Just got 33!!! M.P.G. on a motorway run at a decent average speed throughout. Mine is a jap spec W.R.X. and seems to be a bit more economical than my mates U.K. spec - but that could have something to do with his driving "Style"!

I went to Edinburgh and back on a tank, 300 miles before the petrol light came on at steady 80/90mph. if im enjoying myself its about 220 ish. on trackday got it down to 14mpg. best and most sane thing ive done i to stop zeroing the trip meter and working out what it does to the gallon. just fill her up when needed, sticking about 85 quid a week in it, if it starts to bother me then that will be the time to part company...maybe.
