yup, jap spec WRX badge, got one on the blackbeast, though it looks different to that one, guessing this one is from a later year model (mine's a 94) but to be honest I'd say it's badge from a MY01 WRX jap import.

The I, I would guess, signifies impreza

I was recently looking at a japanese Subaru catalogue.

The Impreza's had the "i", the legacy had 2 "L"'s (one upside down) and the Forrestor had .. wait for it... a kind of stretched "F".
