and when moving to 17 is it wise to move to 215 instead of the 205 or does it hurt the cars handling?

Get em put on! it will look miles better! id stick with the 205/45/zr17, i found the handleing was a lot sharper and less tyre flex than wth 16 inch, i bought sum OZ Prodrive anthracite grey off a P1 looks quite mean, aint seen many with em on yet, Go for it. Cheers Lee

Hi Ste! my car is blue mica with the skirts colour coded, is does look well if i could just keep it clean! got sum of those 555 mud flaps too, they look good, hey mould perfectly round the skirts into the wings. Lee

Definitely.

Many people move to 215/40/17 tyres when they fit 17", because just about the only decent tyre available in 205/45/17 is the Pirelli P-zero. If you choose the wider size then there's a much wider choice of tyres available. It doesn't ruin the handling - far from it.

Hi Ste! hey your car sounds cool! when i bought mine the red mica was another colour they had in stock, iwasnt sure so stuck with traditional blue, but now seeing them omn the road i like em specialy with decent wheels on! one went by the other day and watched it go by then in my wing mirror and hmmm maybe i should of got red they more rare. think i need to get those orange indicators off mine and get sum smoked or white beasties.

Hi Andy C! just wondering about the profile that you recommended, i thought you had to have 45 series tyre when running 17 inchers, to keep the rolling radius the same? or is it because the width is wider making the profile alittle highher? if so that could be a option for me nxt time change if there is better selection, im on my second set of P zers and thought my original bridgestones gripped better in wet, what do you or anyone else recommend as alternative? as i was always told P zeros were the dogs, but ive had my suspicions! cheers Lee

very grippy esp in the wet (yesterday!!!) not
sure about wear yet tho. Pretty good value
at 100 per corner.

The profile gives the ratio between the tyre width and the height of the sidewall, so for a 215 wide tyre, you need a 40 series sidewall to maintain the same rolling radius.

Have a look at the site for Toyo Tyres (www.toyo.co.uk) - they've got a good tyre size converter that lists all the possibilities given your car's original tyre fitment, along with the rolling radius in each case.

Good stuff, Chiark is the only other one I know with this col scheme, looks excellent, especially with the dent guards down the side to complement.
Mine's (whisper it) Red Mica with 17" Motorsports in anth and said side protectors with the Wrc logo (a'la nick ex Holland), with smoked indicatord to finish off.

I would say that I have gone from 205/45/17's to 215/40/17's and the handling is sharper with exactly the same ride quality. I would recommend this, the rolling radius of the 215/40's is very close to the 205/45's and similar to the oe sizes of 205/55/15 or 205/50/16.

Also another vote for goodyear F1's I've had the a little while and they grip better in the wet and dry compared the the Pzeros (also mine were much much cheap - £302 the set).

This is a dangerous thread for me! I was just thinking today now with PPP that things could do with sharpening up. And with all this extra torque, I think my tyres will wear a bit quicker (still on OEM after 9.5K). Looks like I'm going to have to start faffing around with uprated discs/hoses to go with Mintex 1155 already on! It never ends.

Any idea of cost to change excluding tyres to go from MY00 16" wheels to 17" - ie. cost of 17" minus cost I will get for my completely unmarked MY00 wheels?

Also, can 205 or 215 tyres go on the same 17" alloy - are they 7 or 7.5" width?

Sorry for the thicko questions.

(slowly trying to make his MY00 into an RB5 imitation!)
