Picking up my P1 on friday night. It's been filled up with Optimax since new but as far as I know (correct me if i'm wrong) you can only get Optimax from Shell garages?

Well there's a lack of shell garages near me so......

Can you just change over to Unleaded or Super Unleaded without needing to do anything?

Please reply ASAP, I'm picking it up tomorrow!

Yes, use Super Unleaded, you don't need to do anything else.

Use ONLY Super unleaded and preferably use octane booster for added effect.

Optimax is 98.a bit RON, SUL is 97 so the closer you get to 100RON the jap car was specified to the better.

The P1 will run on SUL with no problems and has been mapped to cope with only 97 RON fuel; but you will get more responsiveness from higher octane fuel(up to a point)

Am I right saying you can only get Optimax from Shell?

AS long as I can use SUL then it's not a problem.

Another question:
went to fill up in the only Shell garage im aware of in a 20 mile radius of where i live and they had ran out of Optimax.

Had no choice but to fill up with unleaded normal.

Am I right in saying that this will not harm the car, it just wont perform as well

The docs say you can also use 95 in it, but you wouldn't want to.

Since Optimax hasn't been around for for as long as the P1, I would suggest that it was probably run on SUL initially.

If you have put in 95 Ron (normal unleaded), try ot drive the car off boost. It will det on this fuel.

Got to say that I noticed no difference in performance at all in my car between 97RON/Optimax and booster added/not added to both.

I think the key here is always use 97RON and add booster if you are driving very hard a la Track Day.

P1 maps are same as STi5/6, the knock correction is more senstive though but its still the same maps, do not use 95 ron as this will make it unhappy. As Russell states stick to SUL+booster or Optimax all the time.
