John Felstead's comments are spot on. Too many people go through life worrying what other people think. The whole reason for owning (my second) Impreza was to have something a little different. I love 'em. I am toying with changing next year, but it will still be a fun car whatever I have. Why do people assume that after they turn 30 they have some sort of moral responsibility to grow up? Just enjoy yourself.
My girlfriend's father already owned a Scoob when I met her, he has just bought his second - a monster 2000 Turbo model (with extra large STI V wing ), full Scoobysport exhaust system , Leda suspension and Brembo brake conversion. He's just turned 63 and loving every minute of it
If I were you, I would be more concerned about the image surrounding the 'average' BMW driver

All those little sniggers, the big wing small **** theory, bolt on accessories?...smirks from BMW drivers...how do you cope with being a Max Power Boy Racer...especially when your approaching 40?...is it time to grow up and put childish things to one side?

I'm 22 so I'm cool with being seen as a boy racer. Even though I'm not.
It's not a 'Max Power' car. Max Power's for all those nova's with Calibra Turbo engines. Scooyb's are class

well I had an sti V6 Vltd R somethingorother...and after 6 months even though I loved its performance just had to get rid of it as couldn't continue to accept the constant two fingers it was sticking up to everyone...approaching mid thirties I'm looking more to an M5..as that image of understated power appeals to me more...just wondered if anyone else found their big wings a little heavy to hold sometimes?

you are old before your time as400. I have an STi5 Type RA V-Limited and 36 years old. It never crosses my mind that i am sticking two fingers up at anyone, because i am not. If they think that, then they are sticking two fingers up at themselves.

Bit confused -- maybe it was just you.
But I drove a full-on STI for about 3 years, and now a P1 and a DMW wagon. I don't get any abuse - the odd saxo and nova driver wanting a race from the lights, but they soon get bored when I don't play...and just leave me alone.
If you drive a flash car you are going get a bit more attention - it's how you deal with it that makes a diffrenece.
Maybe the 'power' has gone to your head - in need of a reality check maybe ???

obviously after selling it and getting a M5 and now posting on here, you regret selling it and want another one. Well if you get a STI 5/6 RA TYPE R or whatever you can do a swap.

Hey saxo boy,
You are of course an exception to the rule - I also know that you can driver a scooby - as you leave me standing on the roads around here.
But.....you got to admit there are a lot of idiots out there willing to have a go.. and a fair amount of them do drive a saxo -sorry mate... just telling it like it is!!
Are you still up for Knockhill tomorrow ?

i could not give a flying f***k what other people think of scoobys i buy things that i like. I love my scooby to bits you should start to live your life how you want to and stop worrying about what other people think and say. If you want to stick two fingers up at other drivers buy a BMW not a scooby did you see the latest servey about BMW drivers.

I think Johnfelsread and mega got it one!!!
If I worried about being seen as a non conformist I'd give up now and buy a people carrier
I shoot, fish and drive a loud fastish car...so 8ollox to 'em !
Boy racer? not at all, 38yr old racer? yeah, sometimes

AS400 unusual name what made you choose that ??
I'm 36 & I dont care what people think when they see my scooby, its mine I paid for it, I'm going to enjoy it.
If people have a problem cos I'm driving some thing less common than a BMW 318i then bolx to them, they are jelous, I get the odd nova boy wanting to play but when they realise I wont street race in housing estate they sod off.
People never give me escort a 2nd glance even though it would leave most things for dead in a straight line.

34 years old.
Have a lot of time for Q myself but have always been like that. Before I could drive my fantasy was a 911 with a Ford Sierra shell grafted over the top. Bad idea I know but it just shows to go you where my mind was at in my teens. Maybe it is written in the stars as to how much you like to show as opposed to how fast you like to go. I am of the latter camp. Especially in and around London. Cops like to clip your wings around here so I am more inclined to run quietly.
There is a certain F**k you element to fast cars. Gives you the freedom to graphically inform another road user that you may not care for his/her company... Difficult to resist those urges and not to take it personally when some great lummox gets in your way. This can be a problem. But this a problem in any 'fast' car. Q or not. Probably more so in an M5. Most dont reallise that they have been 'scoobied'. Esp by a wagon and evan more so with a legacy.
My 2 pennies.

Bit sad really *** or whatever you call yourself,
Being obsessed with what "image" your car portrays about yourself. You must be a pompous tosser more bothered about having the right badge at the golf club etc..
Subaru rally heritage is reflected in the design of spoilers etc. The car is highly regarded for its driving qualities its is owned by a high proportion of enthusiasts in whatever form the "boy racer" thing doesnt cut.
However if you had commented big boy/girl toy I could understand.

This year, 40 years old, a fully welded cage will go into my stickered up, winged up, tuned up, blah blah etc "ricer", and I don't give a fvck about what you, the neighbours, or the pope think of that. I'm having fun.
Then again, I would never admit in public ever having worked on an AS400 Let alone using that big blue thing as a username...I do have some selfrespect left

Well goodness!...there are some very fragile egos on here!...a simple question about car image leads to some people getting very easily upset indeed!....we are just talking cars here and not manhood size right?...never mind!...at least you have that big big silly wing on the back of your boots to make you feel better!
