This may sound strange, but try using baby wipes for getting rid of the sticky residue on the paintwork. I've used them before (to remove sticky stuff from plastic car headlights after removing headlamp converters), and they just wipe the glue away without harming the paintwork at all. They work really well on bug splats as well, just make sure you polish afterwards...

Question

Changing some of the stickers on the bodywork, has anyone got any tips on the easiest way to get them off (other than just picking them off)?

Def. hairdryer - or if you havn't got one, water that has just boiled (but cooled off a bit!) works well, comes off easily after that

Cool

Sticky residue can be removed by spraying with WD40, or similar, leaving for 15 minutes, and wiping off with a paper towel.

Before you do any of that, depending on the sticker it may just peel off. The trick is to do it very very slowly.

This method (if it works is the best) as it usually leaves no residue in my experience.

Good way to remove the free advertising stickers some garages plaster over your pride an joy at the sligtest opportunity.

I spent hours trying to get sponsor stickers off an old race car, and tried almost every solvent under the sun . The most effective for getting rid of the residual glue for me was petrol!

If you are going to use paper towels on your paintwork, you may as well go the whole hog and use a sheet of sandpaper........

I found a hair dryer too warm and it leaves even more mess. I just peeled them off by hand on a warm day.

Best thing to remove residue was Autoglym's Intensive Tar Remover - like a hot knife through butter

I started taking the graphics of the car from the charity drive Last weekend, harder than I thought, tips:
Don't heat them too much you want the stickers softened and teh adhesive melting but you don't want it hot enough so the graphics themselves melt, I used a hairdryer and Hot water.

But I'll still need to get at it with a clay bar from the wax wizard and possibly some cleanse before getting stuck in with some shield wax.

.. and if the sticker in question is exactly as old as the car i.e. dried out like a skeleton in the desert? Solvants were as much help as none at all!

Hairdryer still?

If theyve been on a long time I'd suggest not taking them off unless absolutley necessary. Had touring car stickers all over a Nissan Primera from new for 2 years 7 months - when taken off the paintwork underneath was visibly lighter (white car). Probably even worse on a metallic car I would assume.

Thanks for all the tips, seems like some warm water and a hairdryer could be the way.

Cool

Step one - approach vehicle in general vicinity of the offending sticker.

Step two - Gently warm sticker with Wife's hairdryer and then peel up one small corner of said sticker.

Step three - Place wallpaper scraper under raised edge of sticker.

Step four - Using one swift and jerk free movement, push scraper under the rest of the sticker.

Step five - stand back and admire new finish to paintwork.

As said, hairdryer to get it off BUT......

Do not use thinners or petrol. There is a better solution which will not effect your paint at all.

Eucolyptos oil.

Available from Boots I imagine and cheap. It will never harm your paint and will remove sticker glue and road tar with ease. Here is the odd bit. It will not damage your car paint but will remove spray paint from your car if you live in one of those arty areas where kids paint cars at night.

It is the absolute hounds rounds and your car smells nice on the outside.

Good for head colds and blocked chests too.

Results so far.
Turtle wax bug and tar remover------useless
clay bar.....no good
Wax wiz multi clean helps but not so sure if it is good for the paintwork but it seems to take all the wax off (so going to leave as is until the weekend when I can apply more WW shield wax.

Any more advice anyone?
