Just a pasing thought after browsing the Autotrader...there appears to be an abundance of L?M?N reg scoobs for a measly 5grand.....and a few for less than that....OK they may/may not be decent examples but do u guys reckon there will ome a bottom point for scoobies below which they will not fall....or will we soon be seeing scoobies in the under 1000 section!?.....what do u think?

I think sheds will fall into this category if they survive but well serviced/maintaned motors will stay at the 5k minimum. If they become classics!!!!
MY97 onwards I think will stay at a reasonable minimum value for quite a while.

it should not be about how much you can get for your scooby just driving mine gives me a buzz when i drive it every time so i dont think it's about the money it may or may not be worth in the future if it makes you happy it cant be that bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO when they get older there is more chance of services being missed. Whos is going to pay 500+ every year to service/maintain a 5K car. Also less likely to be run on top fuel and oil and more chance of cheap power tweaks being done. All this results in a engine which will find the weakest link ... goodbye. Scoobs can be tweaked for power but do it on the cheap and unless you really know what you are doing it aint going to be cheap . I think we have reached the point where you will see more and more engine failures due to cheap tunning and poor/no maintenance. Followed by a "cheap" backstreet engine rebuild which will last about 10 minutes.

I guess the worrying thing is people are buying the early ones because they are cheap and expecting to be able to thrash them from cold, run NUL and have 320bhp standard , without any problems. It not just engines, turbos are expensive and so are gearboxes. As they get cheaper to makes them unrealistic to fix and not economically viable.

Look at Cosworths - they have bottomed out about now 3 doors = £6,000, Sapphires = £3,500, Escorts = £12,000.

Sadly I think Scoobies have depreciated more, probably because they are more common. Chepeast I've seen so far was a LHD green 5 door 1995 Turbo for £3,995.

I doubt they will ever drop below £2k as they will be worth more than that as spare parts

The Jap Imports will fall into the toilet first, then the modified cars will slip over the pan edge, EU imports will follow with the toilet duck and drown without trace ............. The one owner, un-modified, UK Standard, FSSH, WAGON will retain its value until last ........................ it seems thats EXACTLY what I've got Whoooooooooooooooooopie!! How clever of me not to P155 around with a very good standard spec. car

IMHO after 3 years a Uk scoob is worth the same as Euro scoob maybe a few hundred more if you trade it into a scoob dealer. Just look at teh bike industry who is going to pay 15K for a 3 year old car with no warranty when they can have a new one form europe for the same money with a 3 year warranty.

As for grey imports been down this road before I prefer all the kit and power as standard thanks .

If depreciation is your worry then you are in serious trouble with your classic shape UK scoob cost new what 22K worth now trade about 11K max .

2000/W reg 5DR UK Scoob done 30K miles trade value £11,265

Obviously if yours has done a few miles more or less then there maybe a few hundred either way.

Somebody mentioned £5k
This feels about right.
Lots of decent cars seem to bottom out at this kind of price
e.g MX5-Eunos, Sunny GTIRs etc.
There will always be some cars cheaper and some cars that are more but £4,500 - £5,000 is my gut feel.
Which we are just begining to see

I recently got a 95 WRX Import for 5.5k needed £500 spent on it service and brakes etc but at 60k on clock and unmodified with full history aint bad, as mentioned it's the insurance that's the killer! The car was mint other than the minor mechanics, so I reckon 6-6.5k is a fair price for that age car. I remember when I got an FTO a few years back they had the smae problem, I paid 10k for it and sold it for 7k two years later but that's £1000 a year depreciation so can't complain too much.

I plan on keeping my lovely wagon for another 8 years - would make it 10 years old, worth £5k? that will do me fine

As for the Greys and EU Imports - well they will be long gone by then ........................ the ones I feel sorry for are those who own the Ugly Version, thats how it will be known, when the new one comes out ...................... just imagine the loss staring the BUg-Eyed Owners?????? They will be virtually unsaleable

Well I dont know how low they will go, but Ive seen Jap imports in auctions (straight off the ferry to traders) for 2-5k. the 2k cars being boggo standard WRX, no bits, the 5k cars being really quite nice WRX with wheels, exhaust etc

Who really Cares... We buy what we want when we like ... We all brought Scooby because there FUN so what if in a few years there worth nothing they will still be FUN...

And if in a few years there worth nothing there would be no point in folks pinching them there go for something else so less pinched cheaper to insure.

most people pay 2,000 to 3,000 a year on going away on there hols do they every get that back NO but we can have FUN in our Scoobies everytime we leave the house...

You've got to be realistic, scoobs have become so common now and there are lots of tatty examples available, that the price is bound to collapse, anyone who can afford the insurance & running cost will be able to afford a nice / newer example there for surely the old tatty ones will become worthless ?

All cars will reach a bottom value, but a good car will always remain so. Someone I know just sold an immaculate '96 BMW 328 coupe for £7500, someone else a '96 Turbo for £8000, both similar milages. When you think of the starting price for both and the badge cred for the BMW, then the Scooby didn't do too bad in my opinion. Look around at what other L, M, N prestige cars are seeling at and you won't feel too bad at what you are offered.

If you did, you ain't no enthusiast and if you are loosing money and worried..........you bought for the wrong reasons.

I bought mine for plenty and have never worried about resale values because it's a car and it will loose money. FACT! Accept it, scoobs are not houses so won't appreciate in value. If you are worried, get over it or sell it and weep sooner rather than later and stop griping about how much money your car has lost or how you could buy the same thing cheeper today. ***** me off

How much is the equivalent computer to yours if you went down currys today? I bet you could get summat quicker, bigger screen, faster proccessor, etc,etc for less than you paid a year ago.

I didn't buy my car as an investment, but didn't buy it as the icon that alot of people bought it as, and yes realised it would fall in value the moment I drove it from the showroom, I also made sure I bought a used car so as to allow the previous owner to cover the initial losses. I wonder though about the ease at you accept that values will fall, and ultimately the effect that has on the re-sale values of our cars..... it won't help.

The analogy with the computer doesn't work either as my PC bought at the same time as the car has been totally outpaced, the car hasn't.

Cars are not an investment but most people on here probably worked hard on saving enough to afford a Scoob and then must maintain them. My opinion has always been that I never intend to keep a car for many years and I certainly will never buy brand new. I always prefer letting someone else have that 'new car smell', running in and initial depreciation. I can then come along and buy a 1/2 year old car for thousands less.

I bought my 2 year old imported Scoob for 8/10 grand less than the new price. Kept it 2 years and sold it for 2 grand less than I bought it. Well worth it.

I bought mine because I could actually afford to run one and it solved the 'I-only-want-one-car-not-a-boring-one-for-the-week-and-a-fun-one-for-weekends' dilemma - it amused me that it appreciated in value over the first year of ownership, but I won't lose sleep that it is now depreciating. I intend to keep it until a UK spec prodrive wagon comes along... not that I could afford one if it did...
