Just got my P1 1st July. Have been driving Impreza Turbo for 2 years but didn't fancy the new WRX - & decided to treat myself before I got too old to enjoy the sheer thrill of driving a Subaru.

Any other P1 drivers out there? Let me know if I face any problems or challenges I may not have anticipated - apart from finding the body service was not done by the dealer who had the car as a demo & so is invalid !!

Problems.....keeping your foot of that big pedal in the drivers side footwell and walking around with a cheesy grin all the time, apart from that, possibly armourfend (clear vinyl protection) the front bumper/spoiler, they're prone to stone chips. Welcome aboard.

Watch out for steep ramps in multi storey car parks! scrrrrraaaaaappppppppeeeeee.

The doors are like paper as well. Choose your parking spot well.

Mines just had it's 1000 mile service.
7000 rpm is soooo cool.

Welcome.

As you can see, there are one or two people who have had problems, but isn't that always the case.

There are a great many very happy P1 owners out there, but as in most things in life the unhappy ones make the most noise. There are also a few dreamers like Ro

Nothing personal Jason and Arron, but without doubting your problems for a moment, I would say that's a fair statement.

Welcome.

Ignore Arron, the foolish man has followed the not so wise ramblings of one Andy O' and is going to buy an M3. But then as i said to Andy, when you want a go in a real car give me call!!!

Seriously, you'll enjoy the car. It is a great deal of fun, but keep an eye on your speed or the police will for you.

2,000 miles of mixed driving and no stone chips as yet. BMW has been the worst original paint encountered but after a respray ( slight indiscretion ! ) was fine.

Only problem to date:

Reluctance to start when ` warm `( once) and also when cold ( once ), this when car was new. OK since, without any attention from dealer.

Cheers

Well said Josh ! - prats like AB are *thankfully* few and far...... I hope that he gets his BMW sooner than later.
The P1 is a great car - like with any high performance car, they need treating with a degree of respect and sympathy.......... Dump the clutch several times from standstill in anything with 300 bhp, and it will soon need a new clutch and a new gearbox.....!! (irregardless of make or model!)... Paintchips aside - there really isnt any inherent weaknesses reported with the P1 from those who treat there car correctly

Enjoy - I certainly have - but soon it will come to an end

Hold on Gastro, I didn't call anyone a prat, I simply pointed out that the most disgruntled people in life make the most noise. I do it myself when needed.

However, I love my car, minor problems and all

Welcome aboard. The P1 is a fantastic car hope you enjoy it. I know people whittle on about paint chips etc, but if you get it amourfended, your car will stay looking good for years. Also if you're going to drive like a bat out of hell, super unleaded is what you will need, and lots of it!

have fun

Oh I thought of another one.

Beware high pavements on cambered roads, I have scrapped the bottom of my door a couple of times on account of their longiness.

Welcome to the classroom!
P1 deffo has 5hite paintwork as does the MY01. I have got black plastic polka dots decorating the front bumper of my wrx lurverly eh and Birdy produced a rather tasty orange insert in the front spoiler of his P1 after using the jetwash.
Subaru should try using primer as I have heard that it does tend to make paint stick a little better.
Othrwise P1 is good drivers car (many goes in Birdy's) but let a down just a tad by slow steering IMHO. Enjoy
Cheers

Josh/Gastro,
Well said. Too many positive things about the car for me to worry about any little niggles. But then, some people would find something wrong with winning the Lottery !

Mines done 1,500 miles now and is singing rather nicely. We did a blast from Bristol to Goodwood last weekend and all I can say is WOW. Had a UK car for 4 years. Not too keen on the tyres though, preferred my old S02's.

Enjoy

Steve.

Gastro your obviousley a bit of a knobber.
I have had my car for a year mate and drive it accordingly.
I think I`m probably in a better position to comment on the weaknesses on a P1 than you might think.
The P1 is indeed a great DRIVERS car but for the sort of wedge I paid I expect a better all round quality.
Please dont forget I ran a 5door turbo before that which was chipped and facked with and had the same sort of driving forced upon it as my P1 and I had nothing but **** standard brakes to complain about.
The paint was far better on my old car.
The P1 was a very clever marketing tool for Subaru and Prodrive and in a way I`m glad they got their fingers burnt with it.
Funny how they arnt making 1000 UK 300`s

The P1 is a fabulous car end of story! I don't care what anyone says you aint gonna get that sort of performance and handling under a UK warranty for your money unless you buy something thats got about as much character as a tory leader.

I haven't had any problems with my paintwork I think it was a problem on the first models!

One thing worth mentioning though is, if you have got the brake upgrade (recommended) be prepared to pay for replacement discs. The friction is so good they have a tendency to wear somewhat! Which incidently will also generate the a lot of brake dust which is very hard to get off. I have heard of some people coating the wheels with vaseline or similar material to make cleaning easier. Personally dirty wheels dont really bother me and I have heard other problems when changing pads etc.. Talk to Pete down at scoobysport about this as I noted on recent track day he seemed to have sorted out the dust problem totally on his MY01 set up.

Tantrams hmmmmmmmmm.
Not sure about that however.
Web guru I suspect you havnt had your car too long.
I am on my third front spoiler
I also advise the use of Millers if you change the DP and definately use super as my car (despite advice from Subaru scientists on ere) pinked like fack when I changed them.
I have run it on super from day one and used millers scince DP change once i noticed the pinking and now its fine. (Thanks to Mike Tuckwood`s advice)

Hello fellow P1 people,

I knew it wouldn't be long before Arron was offering his 2p worth

What can I say... its 3rd Scooby turbo, love em to bits and accept that the interior will never be the same as a BMW...sure it rattles...but hey...there are not many cars that give us humble folk this level of performance for our cash.

IMHO the P1 is a winner....sure its more than a std UK or sti...but it is what I want to be driving at this point in time so

Only Joking

Ian

PS: Arron, I go drive the new M3 next week...we can compare notes.
