okay, made the switch to Optimax from the well known other brand TescoMax...

Points to note so far is that it appears to have made bu**er all difference to the car... So, do I need to reset the ECU???

And if 'yes' - what's the easiest way? Do I just disconnect the battery for 10 minutes?

You can disconnect the battery but for an hour at least. Make sure (if applicable) you have alarm codes and stereo codes though . Also most people find it takes a couple of tanks of optimax for it to get going but I am sure the exceptions to this rule are about to post, or when they start work tomorrow .

Cool

IIRC only adaptable ECU is the MY99 - other people will correct me if i am wrong.

So, if not in an MY99 then reset the ECU - Website with how to reset the ECU of a 94-96 scoob Wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to whether it is applicable to later models, so will allow someone else to say.

Or just disconnect the battery as Chrisp says above for a couple of hours.

Then run through at least two tanks for any engine responses to be felt.

Don't go expecting miracles, several people like it, a few don't. I was one of the don't people. But try it with a reset ECU before dismissing it

Anyone else used this Tesco max coz My club card is getting hardly any use and the points are more useful than the shell card?

thanks people, i'm just starting my second tank now, so i think I'll disconnect the battery for a few hours when I fill up next - this should mean all my parts are drenched in the stuff...

Hope it works..!

As said, it seems to take a couple of tanks to show any difference.

The difference you see is of more responsiveness (feels more "urgent" and "ready to go") rather than more power.

I am trying Optimax again after a while of using SUL. Is there any point in reseting ECU on an MY02 car? If so how is it done, other than discon the battery which I don't want to do. I am quite interested to see if I get any increase in MPG this time around. First time it seemed that Esso/BP SUL was giving better than Optimax, but this could have been due to engine running in. Also, does anyone know what is happening to SUL? Three BP stations either near me or on my way to work and none of them have an SUL pump. Also local Shell does not have Optimax. This is a real pain in the *rse. At least Sainsbury's bother to even stock SUL.

Charlie.

PC,

Theres no point in doing an ECU reset on the MY02. It learns a lot faster than the older ECU's. Just give it a couple of tankfuls.

'Chelle, you can reset the MY99/MY00 ecu (Phase II). My dealer used to do mine for me after each service.

It does adapt for changes in knock resistance of fuel, but not that quickly(although better than phase I ECU's pre 99). MY01> have very different ECU's (AFAIK) which are more advanced.

Oh - must'n forget to add that the MY00 ECU was mapped slightly differently (read pants ) to MY99 ECU
