greetings from a scooby virgin
i am about to take delivery of an imported wrx
96 spec with 260 bhp mileage is 32 thousand
the car is immaculate inside and out and i have fitted a cat 1 alarm and a kenwood cd system with 6 cd auto changer in the boot
i am paying a grand total of 8500 which i am happy about
two questions really
1. given that it will only gain max 5k a year as i run 2 other cars what will it be worth in 3 yrs?
2. what is the performance of this model as compared to a uk spec standard turbo (mine is totally standard no mods at all)
thanks for your help

1. How long is a piece of string!
2. Faster if run on Super Unleaded (minimum fuel recommended!!) Mildly modified UK's should keep up with a 260hp WRX but there are a number of UK's with a safe 270-290 that would probably beat you and a select number of 300-350 UK's that will beat you but might blow up at any time

Nope I've got an MY99 impreza now which has 215bhp as standard, the 208's were the older UK's. If you had one of the 275bhp wrx's you'd leave me for dust but I've probably got close to 235-40bhp so I wouldn't expect to be miles behind. When I've got full-decat and running a little more boost I'd expect to keep up with or possibly beat your car.
It can be very hard to tell, I toyed with an Audi S4 last night and beat him relatively easily. The S4 is 5.5 to 60mph so was easily the match of my car on paper. Scoobies can be moody buggers, pull like a train one day and then sluggish the next
Used to have a Saxo VTS...brilliant car. Even managed to convince 1 or 2 of this lot a few months ago

You deffo need to run your new WRX on super unleaded as a minimum, never think of putting unleaded in it unless you want big bills
Also a few things to point out
As your going to be running your car on 97+ ron fuel and your import is designed to run 100 ron fuel you may have some shortfalls in performance, the stated power is 260ps and not BHP so this equates to around 257bhp with 100 ron fuel in, now take into consideration that 100 ron fuel isnt available and the closest you can get is 98.6 ron your going to look at a performance shortfall of around 8bhp in total, so it will leave you with approx 250bhp which is still pretty good
Servicing on your car may be a problem as its 6monthly or 7.5k, which ever is first (oh and you will notice that your car will probably have a rev limiter at 112mph.....)
My suggestion for servicing is Pro-sport in Didsbury nr stockport, just off station road (2 to 3 mins off the motorway).
Just one last thing for you, UK Subaru dealers wont do anything for you because your car isnt a UK sourced/UK spec car...
just to let you know....

thanks for all the info
i will run the car on super unleaded
i have a esso garage near by
if needs be i will decat the thing. I liked my saxo (vts) but after driving this it seems like night and day.
the saxo was a nice little car though a warm hatch i guess
the servicing isnt a worry as im running 5 regular cars, the scooby was a whim i guess
glad to be amongst such devoted followers of a marque

It takes a lot more then a decat to get a UK car over 260bhp . A full decat may give you upto 30bhp on UK if you are lucky so unless they have had boost upped they will still be less than a 260bhp WRX .
Mind due most peopel forget that it the lb/ft torque figure which is more important and shows engine flexibility .

I`m searching at the mo for my 1st scoobie to and a helpful lad called Steve came with me to view a car in his MY01 Rally Blue Impreza with all the Prodrive goodies on it! He said when he fuels his car up he puts nothing but Shell Optimax in and Optimax Octane Booster. Personally i don`t know as much as many of the scoobie enthusiasts on here about fuel but the lad i was with swore by it and was very knowledgable, he said Imprezas perform better with the combination of the previous 2. I`m not sure if that is for just the new impreza engines or the combination of Optimax fuel and Octane booster is a good ingredient for all years!....Hope that helps a bit Rob

My95 WRX import. I have been told by a lot of people to use Shell Optimax, also a lot of people have said to use an octane booster like Millers Octane + from www.sccobymania.co.uk.
My car seems fine on Optimax and I am gonna get some to see if it improves the cars performance atall.

Octane boosters, most popular on here :
Millers Octane Plus - available form scoobymania
Proboost - available from TSL/Scoobysport
Nitrous Forumla (NF) - available from Dingy and CraigH (and a few others on here)
I have always use millers off scoobymania with optimax and had no problems but OBs is a whole different thread .
