i dont see anything wrong with what you did.
If you are going for a time you would be daft not to remove anything you dont need. As to the other changes, you are suposed to tune the car to the task, part of that is getting fueling and tyre presures right.
the 4pm (which ended up as 3:30pm) cutoff was for qualifying, it didnt mean you didnt set a faster time, just that it didnt count towards any awards, oficial stats tables or elimination runs.

Power to weight is the best way to go, not that i would have done this you understand
no id have left the space saver at home in the first place and taken a can of that inflate stuff
