Question

Hi all...

I had my 1st proper test drive in the new WRX at the weekend ... I have an important question ...

I own a 99 sport ... very happy with it I am too however it's time to part x it for a new model .... thought the car was a major improvement, ride, handling even build quality ... but I was taken back by the poor amount of power even compared with my sport, seems to hessitate/falter at low revs ... it had only covered 1300 miles .... is this what everyone has experienced ?? just tightness ?? or is this as good as the new WRX can offer ??

Thanks in advance !

Kev,
Had my MY01 WRX for just over a month now, 2600 miles so far and can only agree with previous posts that it is getting better all the time. Followed 3 P1's to Goodwood yesterday and was very impressed as were others at the performance of the WRX.
The only time i get any noticable hesitation is when the aircon is on.

Its not a perception, its real, which is why they have revised the ECU.

Chins,

as per DrEvil, is the upgrade available to those who bought early on?

Looks like it's a common thing then ... 1 thing that PCB said was the air-con, this was on full blast as it had sat in the sun all morning .. so it sounds like that was an issue too ...

thanks both

There is now a revised ECU fitted to the latest MY01. This is in theory surposed to cure some of the low down throttle hesitancy problems.

Question

Chins - how do we get this ECU fitted to our mk1 MY'01 then?? Any ideas..

And I too agree, low down its a bit hesitent (SP!) and especially with the aircon on...
But the more you thrash it the looser it gets

I think the apparent "lack of power" is more down to power delivery than anything else. Its more a preception thing.

I can keep up with UK turbos in my car - i dont overtake but i dont get blown away!! Handling and refinemet are better - no doubt. Also, they respond well to exhaust mods and Pete Croney rated his MY01 with Leda as the best handling car he's owned. So if your going down the mod route theres a lot of potential with the chassis bein so good.

My car has loosened up - but i still want a PPP!!

I got a gauge pod fitted, and notice the turbo hardly ever hits full boost until very late in the rev range.. unlike the MY'00 and before..

Means BRD could do a lot with it
(Bob could you email me, if I don't get hold of you first)

at the risk of being a meetoo, my wagon my01 is now beginning to feel much more like it with 2500 miles on the clock.

although, I haven't been inside a <MY00 turbo 2000 for a while now . . .

I noticed the aircon as well, but then again, what do you expect - all aircons sap quite a bit of power from the engine - although it would be great if a scoob trainspotter on here could tell me:

What saps more power:
1: leaving the driver window down
2: windows up and aircon on

answers on a postcard...

To be really honest my turbo took about 6 to 8 k before it felt quick.
