The economic factors are that London is just too small compared to Brum - for a similar layout you get a bigger stand and loads more people at the Brum event.

Lots of other 'international' motorshows run on a bi-annual basis which is deemed to be enough by most of the manufacturers and they tend to put on a better experience because they've got more to shout about. Don't forget it costs them millions to attend which is all money that ends up on the sale price of the car.

Yeah, great news...No motor show where most people in the country live, more cars are bought and it is the capital...and it was only alternate years down here anyway !

Yep, I had an email from the orgainisers about this, which in part blamed the downward trend in UK car prices for the cancellation.

I think it is very bad news really as it means less UK exposure to new cars (no 1hour Top gear special, etc) and no opportunity to premier new cars in the UK.

Now whether it is held in London or Birmingham makes little difference to me, but the shows in London have never been on the same scale as the Birmingham ones recently, but I think space is the problem there.

It used to be run by the dealers rather than the manufacturers when it was the "Motorfair" and I always thought it was quite good back then, althought they were a bit more protective over the cars and had more of them locked.

Motor show called off
This year's London Motor Show has been cancelled.

It comes after nearly all the major car manufacturers withdrew their support.

Most car firms have experienced financial difficulties due to the economic slump in crucial markets including the US, Japan and Germany.

Mark Saunders, of event organisers Clarion, said: "Although we have a very successful track record, regularly delivering more than 360,000 visitors during the 12-day show, the economic situation has weighed against us this year."

Plans to relaunch the London Motor Show in 2003 will be announced early next year.

I find the idea of the motor show boring.

I would rather go to a dealers luanch evnet where I can see the car, book a test drive etc etc.

prehaps the specialist shows like kit car, sports car, max power etc make the big shows less attractive. After all 99.9% of cars do not interst me at all, hence I never read normal car mags anymore (just EVO now)

Dealer launches are fine, but a motorshow meant that you could see lots of new cars together, rather than going to 10 dealer launches. Now what we really need is an Evo Motorfair. Losts of shiny new fast cars together and the chance to collect the brochures/book test drives.
