I HAVE JUST GOT A SCOOBY

Firstly congratulations on your purchase! Interesting that you bought it without knowing much about it. At least you've come to the right place to get an education, read through the various forums and you're sure to get an education 2nd to none.

Yup your going to need to run your car on super unleaded or optimax (octane booster as well if possible due to the ecu being set at 100 ron fuel otherwise your going to be paying for a new engine due to det )
Your car should be pushing out 240ps (on 100 ron fuel) so more like 230bhp at the moment with super u/l or optimax....

Services.... every 6 months or 7.5k, whichever comes first.... big ones can cost upto 500 quid, minor ones are around 100 quid, look for 1 big one per year on average.
Tyres..... take my word for it, dont buy cr@p or you will end up in a ditch (ie avon zz1's) try toyo's or goodyear f1's.
Subaru uk wont touch your car, nor have anything to do with parts for it, you will have to go though independant's like ScoobyMania, ScoobySport or TSL.

Get looking in the for sale section, 17's and bigger brakes, uprated ECU as at the moment your car is pushing less BHP than my little and insignificant UK turbo

Bigger turbo?
The one thats on there just now is quite sufficient i hasten to add look at Rich Wild's MY95 UK car, basically the same engine as yours and pushing around 340bhp with minimal mods
The only turbo you can change to really is one of the VF series but most people still like the TD05 as its a reliable bit of kit.
If you were to change your turbo you would also need to start thinking along the lines of engine rebuild so it could take more boost, front mounted intercooler etc, these would cost you quite a bit and put your insurance through the roof

what boost should the car be running? and what would need to spend to get some more power. What mods are needed for that power and how much would it cost

Your boost wont be that high, i think most see it at 9-10psi, if you ask Rich Wild how much it cost him for his modifications to get the car to 320bhp you may be pleasently suprised (oh and pick up a newer ecu for your car, MY95-96 ecu's sort some of the earlier problems out).
Tony
PS, i think Rich spent 1500 quid in total

i am game for that! I knew mine was running low boost.0.9 which i am not used to as my cossie peaks at26 psi and holds 24 psi. and gives you that sort of power. How much for the ecu and can i just plug it straight on.

Dunno how much for an MY95/96 wrx ecu but i dont think they are that expensive, just dont get it off a wagon, it has to be off the saloon as the wagons didnt get a rise in power till 97 from 240ps to 280ps, my95/96 Wrx saloons got 260ps
There are a few breakers around or post in the wanted section, just make sure it isnt an STi ecu thou!

You dont want an STi one cos the engine internals, turbo and injectors are different and you probably wouldnt be able to start your car
Dunno which are the different ones but someone whos changed should be able to tell you that
