I have recently been looking into an alternative form of number plate. Sticker type plates are quite popular but don't allow you to easily fit a track/show plate, etc..... I have managed to source some reasonably priced 'bits' to make up a flexible reflective plate for road use and white/reflective for track/show. The plates can be easily removed and will not scratch the paint - ideal for bonnet mounting. Would this be of interest to anyone?

Here's an example. Can you guess who it's for?
Stef, this should be with you today.

I'm interested Iain - wish it was available a few weeks ago, before I got some of the original style off you!

Thumbs up

The reflective type (for road use) will be £18 and £15 for a white faced track plate. I have ordered a small amount (off-cuts) of the reflective type as it it extremely expensive. I wasn't too keen on the sticker type myself until I tried Stef's on my car - I've changed my mind! And all that extra air flow. I'll e-mail more details to anyone interested.

Sorry about that Trig!! It has taken a while to find quality materials at reasonable prices!

Iain P,
I had a number plate created using magnetized rubber sheet, with the number plate material stuck onto the rubber sheet, on my car for about 10 minutes.

As soon as the car hit 70mph it flew off.

It was the same material the sign company use for van signs etc, but it was TOTALLY inadequate when mounted on the front of the car, like the picture you show.

Also when I did a search on the road traffic act,

Thanks for your info'...........
I have tried the plate on my car and was fine at any speed. There are various types of magnetic strip and thicknesses. I have gone for the thickest I could get to make sure it is durable as well. I would imagine that a mark would be left around the plate due to grime, flies, etc... but no reason why it wouldn't polish out. I'd like to get Stef's feedback before I go too far with this. I'm sure that will be a good test! I also need to do a bit more homework on the legalities but I have made quite a few sticker-type plates with no reports of problems.
