My S02's in 215*40*17's lasted me 5000 miles

How the heck did you get 40k on a set

Or is this a wind-up post

Just read the 2hr bit to drill out some rusty screws...you weren't doing it with one of those Fisher Price drills were you

I've just had my car in for its MOT and have been advised to change the tyres. I have had my Scoob for 2 years and done 40,000 miles on one set. Do I drive like an old woman? Other people talk about how expensive a scoob is to run and expect to buy new tyres every 10,000 miles.

Also just spent the last 2 hours drilling the screws out the numberplate bulb covers (why can't they make them so they don't rust?).

Cheers

Jer

No its not a wind up, I have done 40,000 miles on one set of tyres(Bridgstone's). I do a fair few motorway miles but not to many. I also give the car a good thrash once in a while.

If they are RE010 16" then they do have a long life as they are harder thna teh popular replacements. If you go for tyres like S02 or Toyo T1-S which give better grip but soft then you may find you wear out a set quicker. Personally I couldnt wait to swap my RE010 so I didnt and still have them with 2000 miles done and 6mm of tread in my garage. I went for T1-S on 18"s which have done 4000 and still look in really good shape.

About the same as Mega, the std tyres just about lasted 5,000 miles, then switched to 17" and the Toyos were shot within 3,000 miles, but kept them on until 5,000 miles (had reached very dubious legality by this point) by cranking up the pressures to 38.5/36.5psi. I replaced those with S03's but sold the car before the end of their life, so don't know how long they would have lasted, but they were a lot harder than the Toyos (only good thing about those tyres IMHO).

40k miles from tyres? are you sure someone didn't keep coming along and changing them when you were asleep?

hehe

I've done a set of S02's in about 600 road miles and 4 laps of donington. That's my record for road tyres.

I once had a cavalier that I did about 20K miles in and the tyres looked exactly the same as they were when I bought them though.. I think they were made of teflon or something.

Also did 2 hours sideways on a set of toyo's and they were pretty much fine!! LOL
