My car is up for 22.5k service soon so I phoned my nearest to work dealer - Lancasters at Pangbourne. Booked it in with them, quite helpful have had a few bits of them before etc etc. They tell me it will be £220 quid. Ok I say, see you in a few weeks.

Now, not far down the road and on my way to work also is Mill Lane Subaru in Basingstoke. So I give them a bell out of curiosity. I ask the cost of the same service - £109 Im told. THATS HALF PRICE!!!!! They even offer me a courtesy car at 8.30 so my problem of getting to and from work is solved too.

How can this be? If I bought a chicken in Sainsburys in Basingstoke I would expect it to cost the same as on in Sainsburys Reading and so on. Surely a main dealer service should cost the same wherever you go to get it done. Crazy

You'd be disappointed with Sainsburys too then I'm afraid, as all supermarkets charge differently according to the area, same as with petrol, they'll fleece you for what ever they can get you to pay.

22.5k service is same as 7,500 IIRC.

Basically an oil change. It should be 1 hour labour, oil/filter/gasket/screen wash.

Mine came to £149 but the oil was £50+vat(don't ask).

£220 !!!!!! Unvelievable

my 7.5k service was £87.76 in swansea, 15k service , £168.10 in cardiff, strange in swansea all i got charged was labour , oil, filter and gasket, in cardiff they charged £2.50 for enviromental disposal, £3 for sundries and 95p for screenwash that was already full !, they also charged for 5 litres of oil where as before they charged for 4.5

Had a 30K 2 year service last week. Was quoted £405 from a new dealership in Plymouth (where I live), and qouted £250 for the same service at a well established dealer 20 miles away (Ashburton Motor Works) + a curtosey car. Guess where I went????

Yeh ok supermarkets may charge differently but do you know of any that charge twice as much?

Bottle of coke 1.10 in one place 2.20 in another, er dont think so certainly not in the same chain.

Subaru don't have menu pricing like some other manufacturers, so that is why prices can vary so much. Go by recommendation.

my wife called in our new local dealer whose been open about three months to get a price for the 22.5k service to be told they dont do servicing yet !
