Type R's are 2 door
The (normally) have no abs and a mechanical differential (adjustable).
I think that covers the main bits

Oh and the type R's are a lot rarer I believe the P1 was a de-tuned version of this car produced for the UK market, and I know which one I'd rather have

Sodium filled exhaust??????????

Shurely shome mistake?

I would have thought "sodium filled valves" is a possibility. But exhaust?

I could be wrong, but it just sounds strange.

Chiark, I was quoting the IWOC website for the sodium filled exhaust:
http://www.iwoc.co.uk/jpsti.html

as for a P1 slagging, take the TypeR and:

Remove the STi suspension
Remove the close ratio gearbox
Remove the waterspray
Remove the adjustable diff
Remove the aluminium suspension arms
Add ABS

then you have a P1, thats de-tuning in my dictionary, BUT P1's are fantastic cars and I'd have one anyday if I could afford one I just think you get more for your money with a typeR, and thats my opinion and I'm entitled to it

De tuning in my book means the engine is tweeked to give less power. You havent listed any such proceedure therefore you need to buy a new dictionary

Of course its your opinion and youre entitled to it. However in order to take your opinion seriously id expect you to have owned both cars which i suspect you havent along with other rent-a-quote P1 bashers.

TypeRA's have a quickrack too.
TypeRA's are 50Kg lighter than TypeR's
TypeRA's have 4 doors
TypeRA's have a front and rear mechanical LSD
Its sodium filled exhaust valves.

P1's are great, they are quite diferent to TypeR/RA's, i look at them as softened for the average UK work to home comuter every day rep mobile type thing. Where as the TypeR/RA is a bit more, dedicated enthusiast who can understand that a mechanical diff and locking centre diff is going to be more in ya face type thing.

You know what it all comes down to dont you ?

some people have electric folding mirrors, and some don't

seriously though, its a horses for courses scenario, apologies for unintentionally making the thread into a "my dads car is faster than your dads so ner" they are all most excellent cars, each with its own merits. I bet John & me wont be as smug when our adjustable diffs disintergrate and we wished we had an extendable 3 yr warranty from subaru UK....

......off to buy a dictionary now

Not at all. If my centre diff goes pop i'll just get it repared at a local subaru specialist. I wont hold out for IM, who no doubt would invalidate my waranty for driving the car as advertised.

P.S at least i have a centre diff to pop.
