I/C type water
#1
Hi all,
I read that one should put dionized or distilled water into the I/C water spray holder as if you use regular water after time the sediments / minerals in regular water could corrode / pitt the intercooler. Needless to say access to this type of water is limited so I have been using regular water.
I would assume I should still get a good 3 - 5 years from my I/C when using regular water or will it corrode much faster ?
Cheers,
Ray
PS: Anyone have a list of what is done at the 3,000 mile / 6 month oil change and service. Only replace oil, oil filter and washer or is there any other fluids that should be replaced. How about checks....what checks should I be doing ? Big thanks in advance

I've been using good Essex tapwater for the last 2 years in my STI without any discernable ill effects. Lets face it, the scoop sucks up and spits rain water/salted road water etc etc at the I/C all year round.

Surely it depends on your tapwater? Dunno about corrosion, but you'd block it with limescale PDQ given some of the tap water I've seen.
I would either boil it in a kettle first, or run it through a basic drinking water filter. Having descaled my kettle once every four years rather than once every three months, I assure you it makes a difference.

Hey guys,
There is two switches / buttons (on the right of my steering wheel on the dash) that came with my JDM STi-7. One says manual the other automatic or something. If I push the manual it sprays out for about 5 - 7 secs. I have never tried the other button, what does it do ? Does it spray for example every 30 secs or does it spray auto when the I/C gets to a certain temp etc automatically and depending on the conditions is how much it will activate and how quickly you will go through the water ?
Cheers,
Ray
Anyone got an answer to my service question in 1st post on this thread ?

auto sprays the intercooler in 5 second bursts depenedent on boost and throttle position.
How long it lasts depends on how you drive. 40 miles is normal road driving, i get about 12 miles on track!! It's empty before i have finished one lap of the ring!!! Bit of a design flaw there.
You can press the manual button 10 times after the auto stops working, no more than 10 though or you will run the bottle dry and burn the motor out.

yep, 95% of the time i am tootling to work or on a run to somewhere, you cant nail these cars on the road, you are up to the speed limit very quickly. Your not telling me your on boost more than that are you?
I save my hard driving for the track.
