Wink

are you reading chins??
ok , here goes...
4 weeks ago got 330ci. 3 days ago put an offer in on a house( wasnt house buying when i bought 330. being self employed and in a cash business, i have to be careful how much i put in the bank
the difference between the cost of the little 2 bed i rent and the 3 bed i want to buy is 300 per month.as it happens this was how much the 330 was costing me per month.
my journey to work at the mo is 30 mins.new house is 10 mins from work. i dont drive during the day.could i justify a 30k beemer doing nowt?no.if i put more money in the bank to pay the mortgage, i would break the vat threshold....bad news
i had an equity of of 15k in the 330..my life savings basically.
so, to kill a lot of birds with one stone i needed to sell the 330.which i did yesterday.

so, why the hell am i posting this?
well....guess what i'm picking up friday?

sti v5

cost 15.5k
99s
really looked after, with service history.
got it through a friend of a friend.
did i think scoobys could be this fast ...nope!
am i mad? maybe
am i happy? aint been this happy in months.i know the drawbacks of scooby ownership, but NOTHING, not all the wood and leather in the world, sounds as good as a flat four on song
i'm back from the darkside, i'm happy , and hope i dont get flamed too much from pete
p.s. insurance via tesco's is £950. priviledge quoted £1600
BANZAAAAAIIIIIIIIIII !!!!!

am very surprised you got insurance thru tesco, they turned my sti5 down at two intervals over the last two years !!

welcome back tho

on a more amusing note, i popped the wife's 530d in for its first service (13k) t'other day, £130 all in and they even cleaned it!
Wonder if i should start a 'well done bmw... lesson for subaru part 2' thread

Is it a coupe or 4 door? Post a pic when you get it.
Welcome back to Scoobyland.

Cool

to be honest, i couldnt fault the 330ci auto.
if i was doing a lot of mileage i would DEFINATELY ( or as near as definate is with me )have kept the 330. it was quick, refined, comfortable. dealer was superb and friendly. it was simply a business move. not an earner in the short term, but long term i wont worry about paying a mortgage.

STi5 Seems like a good plan. Are you still planning a crazy power upgrade (a la sunny gtir) or is it fast enough then?

Hi spudgun,

you'll have a lot of fun in your sti5.
One thing to be VERY VERY careful with is the Air Flow Meter (MAF) as I have had 3 go on me before I changed the ecu.

What is the full speck of the car, post it up here.
Check for after marrket induction kit, filter etc... be very careful..

you'll still want more power when u get used to it... and then your talking ££thousands more dosh...

My next , maybe last changes will be FMIC, hybrid turbo and then i'll be happy.. want to save my monmey for a MK2 Escort to have some real fun going sideways on fullchat!!! ehe

know what yer mean salsa
not as bad as chins though! where is he tonight, or is he trying to buy another car to steal my thunder as champion dosh waster
looking through topmarques, scoobys always seem expensive when you want to buy one, cheap when you want to sell
15.5k seems a good price for the car. lots of extra goodies i'm told, and a decent bit of ICE.
a lot in topmarques seem to be around the 17k mark.
admitedly i lost money in a short amount of time, but not THAT much, comparitively speaking, and the fair price of the sti kinda compensates.
at the end of the day, i had to get realistic. i want my own home, i'm sick of renting. now i have sti 5 and can afford mortgage comfortably. cant be that bad eh?

@ salsa king!
couldnt fault the 330 or the service and thats the truth. it was a sudden change in circumstances that introduced reality( however short lived it may be) in to my life.
to be honest, im just VERY happy at the moment. now wheres pete to ruin it for me...after all, import with gold wheels! now that will never do

and while i'm here knawing my finger nails down to the knuckle in anticipation ...
how do these compare to a my00 with ppp? i was pushed for time yesterday, so didnt take it out for miles and miles, just a good blat for half an hour round town, and let dragon auto sport check it over.seems like ages ago i had the my00.
everything is cool
anyone know performance figures for these? i take it she should only have sul and octane booster. any other things i have to do compared with a uk car?
am i gonna have major fun here or what
cheers guys from a very happy and excited spudgun

I know those roads well, but I believe the road between Brentwood and Ongar is even better.....a regular Scooby hunting ground where you can throw the car and test its limits....
It's great to see that you've got that "new Scooby" feeling again....just can't be beaten, can it?

Cheers

Sorry, but that is worse than me . Thats less time than your S4 isnt it ?

My own feeling is that you were infact looking for an excuse to come back. You can admit it to us we are all friends here

I'd guess that if you really wanted to you could keep the 330. Youre like me and using this house stuff as an excuse. No one has been waving to you and you miss it. Eveytime you see a Scoob drive by your heart sinks. Hear a SS exhaust and you want to cry.

Am I ringing any bells ?

Would of replied to your thread last night, but was at a hotel getting ready for a Palmersport day. A chance to drive some cars Ive not owned

@ chins
ah, my nemesis u mean theres a car u havnt actually owned? i think the s4 ownership just pipped the 330.god i hated the s4. the 330 was good
you did ring some bells, although this time i really do have to buy a house
this means that i cant do any chopping and changing for a while, this will give you chance to catch up
besides, is there anything worth owning apart from a scooby? ferrari? porsche? for 15k? nah.....

See....you should have got the 330d - fuel saving alone would have paid the difference in your mortgage

My 330d-Vs-Impreza running cost saving in 4 months of ownership has so far paid for a 5* holiday for two in Tunisia, and a long-weekend at the Ritz in Paris and over the next 12 months or so will pay for my Caterham

That being a said a mint SS modded STi5 for 15k is a steal

well, got the sti5 today.if your bored easily, heres the abbreviated version, ok?
BANZZZZZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIII !!

for those still with me, here are my initial thoughts on the car.
to the guy who sold it, lives in burnham, mate, you really looked after that car, and i promise i will not wreck it or abuse it, the car is a credit to you. if you are on this bbs, i would love to hear from you. why on earth did you sell this car
its a silver sti5, 99s. 34k miles approx. the only mods appear to be a ssbackbox and downpipe, leda suspension, driving light conversion.clifford cat one alarm with proximity sensor, gold 17" mims( hmmm...P1's going on i think) and some good ICE. guy that valeted it today wanted to buy the ICE. i dont know much about this stuff, but i'm not dismantling this car, its too good.
full service history by scoobysport, and car sold originally by david hendry.
thats enough of the boring stuff, heres the good stuff...
THIS CAR IS QUICK! i had my00 with ppp and prodrive suspension, this car IS quicker, it corners like its glued to the road. it sounds phenomenal inside the car and outside, without being intrusive.
spoiler is a bit on the huge side, but resulted in my car being wolfwhistled by kids outside the shops
a sad vectra driver decided to try it on on the motorway. why was he sad? who drives around in bright sunshine with drivers lights on? ( say drivers sporty lamps in a nasal way and you catch my drift )
i obliterated him
compared to a uk car? its better built, the interior is much better, the glovebox shuts properly and evenly, the seats grippy and has alcantara. the only advantage of buying a uk car is easier resale and warranty. sorry, but i have good people looking after this car, and i'm glad i never have to set foot inside another useless subaru dealership again
was the 330ci worth 30k? yes...if i did mega miles i would still have one.
is this car worth 15.5k?
without bl00dy question it is awesome
will keep everyone up to date with everything over next few days, i am SO glad i'm back in a scooby! this much car and this much fun for 15.5k....what the hell else can u get for this little???? bargain of the centry.
CHEERS FELLAS!!
p.s hope i didnt bore anyone, just fell in love again today

Glad you like the car. I'm giving you six months before you trade up to the better built, better handling new shape

Gary

You always seem to post about the huge savings you make in running cost of the BMW vs Scooby. Have you a breakdown to show this ?. Am I missing something ?

Sounds like a great car for the £££ and sensible mods, must of cost the previous owner about 30k to do.

Have fun
