Sadly my days of superb motoring are coming to an end. First the company scooby went and now my MGF. The advertisement has been placed but how do I keep my private plate and how long does it take to change? Can I change it on the day of sale ?

Alan

You need to place the plate in retention get the docs from ya local post office - I suggest you get it done ASAP then get the DVLA to assign a new plate to your current car.

It can be done on the day - but you need to visit a local DVLA office (be prepared to wait in a Q)

Should cost you approx £125 (inc transfere fee)

Thanks for the info.

Yes, my local office - Wimbledon had queue about a mile long. Luckily it can be done at the local office, as I've already placed my advetisment. No way could I sell a car without the log book. I suppose I'll have to be cheeky and do it all in one got once I have a deposit from the buyer.

Safe motoring,

Alan

A bit off track this one, but i read that if you write off the car, your splendid reg plate becomes property of the insurers- and that you have to then buy it back off them!!!
You can get insurance against this happening.

So any 1979 Skoda shed owners with a reg "911 RS" or the like sould consider that!!

Is this true?

Exclamation

You don't need to que at the post office, just send the V778 to your local VRO, address at their web site I guess.

Dont forget that the retention certificate is only for a year, you will not be informed when the 12 months are up and if you do not request an extension( £25 )before the 12 months are up you will loose the plate.
