Why would only one servo get 98 RON fuel and the rest 97 RON. Where is this servo getting the 98 from?

Perhaps his petrol is clean with no crappy additives thrown in and that's why you notice the difference. Don't know about the UK, but in this neck of the woods and in OZ, lots of servo's are adding substances in their petrol to make more profits and the cars don't perform as well obviously. Why is the servo claiming it is 98 RON is another question. Maybe the workers there think it is. All I can say is, it is very confusing.

Adam, glad you like the term servo, for petrol or service station. A very common term in the land of Aus.

Has anybody besides pat been to the BP station on the A132 on the way from the A127 to scoobysport recently.

They pumps are saying 98 RON on them. When questionned 3 times (on separate occasions) Pat was informed thtat it is actually 98 RON petrol.

Before anyone says, it is old signage, the station has just been re opened with new pumps, and new stickers on each one.

All I want to know is if anyone else has used this station or others recently to get hold of true 98 RON fuel.

Hi Adam,

How are you? yes you are rigth! when ever I visit Pete C and the team I leave my area with a quarter tank so when I get there I fill up, and I can tell the differance.

I just wish they all sell 98 ron, further more on Gillette corner/Syon lane there is a Shell they have stickers on for 98ron also, I questioned it they claim it is so, so I fill up from E and the fuel was pretty ****!!!.

See you around Adam

Is that the Shell garage on the junction?

I'm up there tomorrow and will need a fill-up.

So it is true then!

Cool. Thanks for the reply.

Believed pat anyway, but he is pretty fanatical about some things, and you should always question someone with extreme views on anything!

My local BP (superstore - if you will) is being refurbed at the moment, so I am praying that since it is a biggie, it might get this benefit. Who knows?

Anyone else know of any?

I thought it was a BP, but I believe it is actually on the roundabout on the A132, where you would trun left to go to scoobysport.

I also went to a BP garage in Loughborough (brand new, just opened) - and there it was 98 RON fuel ! I asked the manager, who confirmed that *it is 98RON* which they will be selling in conjunction with 97 RON and 95 RON..........
Lets just hope the other petrol companies follow suit........

Yep just filled up in Shepherds Bush at the BP, and noticed it said Ron was 98. Happy bloody birthday & hallelujia!

Asked the kiosk guy and he confirmed it. I in no way believe him of course since he wouldn't know Ron Wood from Ron Davies!

I shall ask BP. I feel this is my quest, the one named Diesel has arrived!

Adam / Diesel,

Have already commenced investigating this issue. Awaiting a reply from the fuels people - I work for BP but not in that area.

Have found an old ? spec. sheet which quotes the previous 97 RON. Interestingly it quotes the change in vapour pressure between Summer ( June 1 to August 31 )and Winter
( Sept.1 to 31 May ) - quite an increase in fact.

Have also requested a list of all outlets.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers

OK guys, hot off the press !

Confirmation from BP contact:

Superplus in UK is 97 RON - signs are incorrect - OLD and should be removed !

There is no intention to increase the RON of Superplus

42% of outlets stock Superplus ( no list as yet ) with a possible 9% increase over the next nine months.

The South Wales area supply of BP Superplus is being taken over by Texaco outlets - quote:

The base hydrocarbon will be identical to Texaco`s however the additive package which supplies detergency and therefore BETTER PERFORMANCE is specific to BP.

Am awaiting the latest spec. sheets - again, will keep you posted.

Sorry to burst the bubble !

Cheers

If anyone requires further info. then please contact me by email

James

That's amazing as, like Adam says, the BP station at the end of our road is only 2 months old.

Surely there is a potential trading standards issue here. These are brand spanking new pumps and this is not a case of old stickers awaiting relacement.

I'll ring my local council and see if they can get it tested. They might as well do something for my £9000 of rates each year

£9000 of rates for that shed

I would tend to agree that its a trading standards issue.

I cant see why they wont supply higher RON stuff, but could there be an issue to do with the addatives pushing the price up due to even more taxation on the extra ingredients.

Anyone tried chilli peppers to boost RON?

Question

I thought that higher RON petrol was now taxed at the same level as normal UL after the last budget (hence LRP got much cheaper, but most of my local stations barely reduced SUL, grrr).

Hi again,

Now in possession of the complete listing of all BP UK sites selling 97 RON SuperUnleaded. It is extremely comprehensive, giving site name and location details by road name; town and postcode.

If anyone requires a copy post here as I`m away in work on a different address to my profile.

Just the spec. sheet to come.

Cheers
