tested EVO 7 selling the P1!!!!!!
#1
After testing today both the evo6 and evo7 i have decided to sell the p1 for a 7.
The evo6 was very not bad but i think overall the P1 is a better car and i think just a touch quicker with the ss downpipe.
But as for the evo7 well it has all the feel of the evo6 and some, the gearbox is smooth and very short, the response from the pedal and the way it feels planted on the road is exceptional.I must add that the one i drove had a wrc pack which included: straight through exhaust
hks induction kit
18" wheels
lowered suspension
1.3 bar boost
349 bhp and fu**ing quick.
The overall build quality and the way the car responds does it for me.
Sorry boys and girls but the world stands still for no-one or nothing including the P1 but hey BETTER THAN AN M3 EH,now then i would be a fool, they are driven buy Wa*kers arnt they????

Did you not try out the STI7?? ok its ugly but by the time you have added all the goodies that are extras on the evo and standard on the STI your looking at slightly more for the evo!! But if you did test at warrender they probably didnt have one in
The only bad thing about the evo is that the aint sorted that pathetic fuel tank out yet!!!! 50ltr tank in a family saloon and a range of around 150miles...... what can you say??

a fuller review etc would be very interesting.
ive just been visiting local mitsi dealers talking about evo vi / vii.

hi jason
i never liked the way an evo6 looked, but i have to say i think the evo7 looks great. not seen one in the flesh, but i like the pics ive seen. nice clean lines and not overstyled. the size of the fuel tank has ben mentioned by a lotta folks, and it would be a pain i imagine, constantly having to fill up.
having said that, i could be tempted one day
just out of interest, how much are the official uk cars? what savings can be made getting an import, and will mitsubishi service it? are their any insrance differences, fuel etc etc.
just curious you understand

Ralliart official Evo 7's are going to be £29995, and they are flogging the 6's for £30995, seems a bit odd to me. One of the supermarkets have the 7's instock at £27k all in and importers are asking £25k - £30k, so depends on the deal as to the cost, but I believe the Ralliart Evo 7's should be available in October/Novemeber if you order now.
Don't know whether 'bishi will service it as all Ralliart cars are to have a 'passport' to identify them as official ones, could always ring your dealer and see if they want your business, don't think they are as bad as Scooby dealers in that respect.

A good spec 7 import - i.e titanium turbo, high intensity driving lamps, cat 1 alarm and tracker, and a stereo!, is about 29k.
Servicing isnt a problem - mitsubushi dealers welcome the business.
Insurance seems to be a problem especially on a import, many companies dont even have a evo 7 listed on their books yet. And being 25yrs old doesnt help as well!

I'm with Spudgun on the looks of the EVO VII. I think it looks nicer than the VI. Looks a bit like the old shaped Impreza's I reckon. I wouldn't mind one myself.

Jason,
Do you know that next year EVO 8 with 6 speed gear box will launch? EVO 7 is not selling very well in Asia as its only 5 speed vs the new STI 6 speed, therefore Mitsubishi have already announced about the EVO 8....

Have to agree with shaolin.
have driven all three, P1 evo 6 and 7.
Driving wise, there is not much in it between 6 and 7. Except from inside, 7 is too civilised. I think they have tried so hard to sort out the interior, that it has become a conventional saloon. I do[nt like the flat dashboard, which is aimed equally at driver and passenger, and that rear wing, YUCK.
Quality may be worse (big deal!), but the 6 feels more like a driver orientated cockpit. And when driving the 6 you can feel the visual drama going on outside. You get out and look back and see a monster. Road presence kills the 7.
7 was great to drive, but not a lot in it compared to 6, that makes it a better package. If I owned a 6 I would walk away and look back smiling, overall the 7 doesnt give that feeling.
Have to admit that I didnt spend enough time in either car, to fully be able to appreciate the dynamic differences, but the way I drove them was on average how I would drive all the time, so was the indication I needed.
Thanks to Iain Litchfield for the test drive . Appreciated mate (preferred the smart though )
Perhaps the 8, but it is going to look like a 7, so the main issue will still be there.
Sorry guys, but driving wise(which is what it is about) the P1 doesnt get a look in .
Would recommend all P1 owners who have tried but dont like the evo, to try a 22B. Or at least a quick steering impreza. Totally changes the driving experience. And if you havent already done it, then get your bumpsteer removed before changing the car for an evo, is much cheaper and makes one hell of a difference.

Havent we done the P1 vs EVO VI on here too many times. Both great cars with a 50-50 split. We have some owners that have sold their EVO6 for the P1, and some the other way round.
Comments like P1 doesnt even get a look in are not even worth reading. The guy is talking CRAP. Yes I have driven both before you ask.
P1 vs EVO 7 we havent had, but how many on here have driven the new STI. If the STI 7 is a step up from the MY01 PPP, then it will be pretty close IMHO.
This post as well compares a much modded EVO 7, again spend the same on a Scooby and would the difference be that great ?

I TAKE EVERYBODYS POINTS HERE BUT THERE ARE SOME UNDERLYING FACTORS.
THIS IS NOW MY SECOND P1 AND AFTER BLOWING THE ENGINE ON MY FIRST I THINK I HAVE LOST A LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR.
DUE TO PAINT PROBLEMS AND OTHER MINOR DEFECTS I FEEL AS THOUGH THE CAR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STAND THE NEXT 3YRS OR SO THE WAY I DRIVE.
I CANNOT STAND THE UNDERSTEER IN THE WET AND ON THE LIMIT!!!!
SIX SPEED MEANS MORE GEAR CHANGES AND THATS THAT, LETS BE HONEST THE NEW MODEL HAS NOT EXACTLY DOMINATED THE RALLY SCENE THE WAY RALLY LEGENDS ARE MADE,( OLD MODEL/EVO5/6 ESCORT COSWORTH )SO IS IT THAT GOOD??????
IN A 30 MILE RADIUS WHERE I LIVE THEIR ARE BETWEEN 6/8 P1`S.

I take it this Evo 7 to which jason refers is the Warrender WRC340? This adds a whopping £6465 to the asking price (making it £34.5k if you include extras like titanium turbo and metallic paint).
If I had the money, I don't think I'd spend it on a P1 or any old-shape Scoob now -- the old shape is starting to look quite dated IMHO. I think the MY01 (and its STi variants) is pig-ugly, even with the Morettes (which do improve it somewhat), and I couldn't see myself getting one unless they sorted that out for MY02. I think it would have to be an Evo 7 -- the less wild looks are even starting to grow on me.

Yup, I must concur.
When the Scoob goes, it won't be replaced by another. Probably an Evo 7 instead.
Though having bought 3 new cars in 6 months (excluding the scoob) it won't be for a few months yet.
Evo 7 might not be the prettiest of cars, but then the Evo 6 looked very Darth Vader with love it or loathe it looks. But it's a darn site prettier than the MY01 IMO
