Are these really any good? -does it make the car sound any differant, as Ive already got
a Scoobysport back box and that's quite loud enough for the wife!
Do they add any HP either?
Are they easy to fit? im thinking of the 57i
Cheers Trevor

Question

On the subject of K&N induction kits, has anyone tried one of the "Generation II" kits? My Demon Tweeks 2001 road catalogue lists one for the Scooby.

Hi Ya

ive been using a 57i for about 18 months (27k miles)on my vectra sri (yes I know! the scoobs coming in feb next year ) anyway i have noticed that throttle response is much better, HP must be better 9.7 down to 8.8 0-60mph (courtesy of on-board info panel stopwatch) and fuel consumption on average is 2-3 miles better and gives a great zorst note even on a vauxhall.

However i have noticed that as things get hotter under the hood performance drops a bit as the filter will be sucking hot air in the engine bay. The new generation K&N has a heat shield thing so this should help.

Overall very pleased, and the thing pays for its self very quickly as you dont need a filter every service and of course MPG.

By the way, dont forget to tell your insurance co.

Guys,

it is not a generation two kit, i have seen such a thing looks really good,

I do not know if it will fit the sport (Anyone?)i think it would? if not if you are resonably local to berkshire it would only take a few minutes to see!!!

I've got a Jetex Response cone filter on my current machine, bolts straight onto the turbo! The sucking noise is rather pleasant as is the overall sound of the turbo whistle and dump valve tsh you can hear through it (noise that would normally be lost in the airbox). It helps the engine breath easier so the turbo can spin up quicker and, in conjunction with a sorted exhaust, will increase hp as you can get more air/fuel into and out of the engine

As said, engine bay heat can be a problem; as we all know warm air doesn't compress as well as cold air and so doesn't cram as much fuel into the engine, so a decent heat shield, cool air ducting or even a cool air box are a must. If you have direct cool air ducting try not to feed it directly onto the filter as it tends to disrupt airflow through it which doesn't help. If it's possible get the cone filter (or whatever) into an empty (yeah right!) part of the engine bay and build a box round it to keep the hot air out, then feed ducting into the box but not directly onto the filter and you should be laughing . I know of people who've moved the baterry into the boot to achieve this.

My, these night shifts make me babble

i am currently on nights and so i will not see the board again until at least lunch time.....i am not ignoring you Re:- filter

Also debatable if the filter will allow engine to lose less power with the filter kit, allows turbo to spool up quicker though, giving a better throttle response, as engine is turbo charged the air is drawn into the engine by the turbo and does not rely on the piston going down the bore to suck air into the engine, in this instance the less "restriction" ie OEM air box etc would lose more power than on a "turbo" engine...................

Know what you mean about nights

ahhh yeah sorry, k&n gives a nice deep induction roar note on acceleration with a nice tsssccccchhhh upon throttle release

I've got one sat in my garage for my UK99. It won't fit!! The hose is the wrong size to fit on the MAF box - nightmare, now I've got to wait to return this, and get a new one. At least it sounds like it's going to be good.

I don't suppose anyone knows if I could by the hose from K&N seperately (to save time)?

Matt C > I would imagine so. I know you can get parts of DV fitting kits from Baily and parts of hose kits from Samco, so I don;t see why they would turn custom away!

The Generation II kit isn't out yet. I was planning to get one but it won't fit with my new FMIC.
My advice would be to wait for this, it's gonna rock. :ccol:
