Anders,

If it's any consolation (and it probably isn't), having seen your pistons "in the flesh" I can only say "that's only a scratch compared to the pistons that came out of my 3S-GTE engine!". At least your pistons still look something like pistons :-P The worst of mine had almost total ring land failure (completely shattered), the top was like a lunar landscape and the edge of the piston was, well, err, NOT THERE!

It's a royal pain in the ^%$^ and I can only sympathise with your situation. But "you're not alone". For me it's a case of "been there, done that, got the keyring" [rather nice HKS one at that!]. My case was somewhat different but the end result was similar.

My approach was "fit as close to indestructible parts as sensible money can buy". A rather expensive approach but quite effective. No more engine problems, but to add insult to injury, the car was then written off within 3 weeks of the completion of the work. Not my fault, but someone driving along on the M11 in a Pug 205 diesel on a remould, which blew, he rolled the car and caused a pile-up which I was unfortunate enough to find myself in the middle of.

Hope you get your car fixed real soon, but don't forget that quality parts do take time to source! Oh, yeah, avoid the M11 for a month after getting it back! :-) :-)

Cheers,

Pat.

Are we allowed to know who is rebuilding your engine and what upgraded parts they are using?

Cool

I am relieved to say that I am in the hands of Scooby Mania

Live by the sword, die by the lethal force of virtual communities! LOL

I know that Benny will respect and look after my car, (as for me that is just a hope )

Benny found Mark Shead, an extremely well respected Cosworth engine builder, I have had MASSIVE off list support/guidance in the last few months, I have made Marks' life hell by posing all sorts of questions that I only hope I pronounced correctly!

Mark took it upon himself to go out to the land of STi and our marsupial friends to get the latest.

I will not be disapointed as you will know!

My car may be special again, along the way the "Virtual community" has at last realised that there is no such thing as a safe remap off the shelf!

Once my baby is back together again, I intend to put her on a rolling road. Naturally I do not respect the Power Engineering setup, now its idiosyncrasies have been exposed.

I am arranging a SE England session, anyone else interested in a flat playing field with no products to sell and no guaranteed performance advantage!

I for one would like to see some scoobysport products tested on a rolling road that has no commercial interest in the outcome..I can't believe that people don't get gains, time after time, when the driveability is so increased.

count me in too. although not if its tdi

Question

Sorry, have I missed a meeting here? Are folks now suggesting that PE's rolling road is suspect? Jeez, the harder they fall...

DavidG,

I think Anders justs wants to stay away from PE as per the threads shown.

Anyway, it will be good to find another source of testing for the Scooby

Yex - still wondering what the real output of his car is

DavidG,

The output as measured on a rolling road is dependent on many factors, including ambient temps, barometric pressure, the operator's technique, number of runs etc.

As a consequence, comparisons of measurements taken on different rolling roads are completely meaningless. They are useful for before/after comparisons on the same RR with as many of these variables eliminated or common as possible. As long as you accept that the RR Dyno days are just a bit of fun then thats fine - just don't read too much into it.

Let's face it - nobody complains when the PE RR showed good gains for whatever mods (bleed valves, intercooler splitters and sprays etc) people were running, so did PE manipulate them in you favour as people are implying they did for their own products?.

Cheers,

Alex

A rolling road is never going to be as accurate as an Engine Dyno, and as Alex says they are only good for before/after on the same day comparisons if you want accuracy Check peoples readings from February compared to the height of summer ?

Anders,

I would like to second Adam M and ask who wrote the report you have quoted from on the page. It always adds weight to a text if it's author is known, after all, would you take any new report in your professional field at face value without having any idea of who's research was behind it?

**
Come on then, who wrote that report?

Yex, I know of Anders' problem with PE and won't comment on that. However, even if PE did damage Anders' car, it's a big step to go from that (which is still an if) to imply without any foundation that they fix the results on their rolling road to favour their own products. I think that's unfair, particularly given the co-operation they have given to the Scooby fraternity. (I have no connection with them - not even as a customer.)

Alex, I take your points.

DavidG,

My comment about the REAL output of my car was because I have never used a rolling road before and want to know the truth about MY particular Scoob, it was not meant as a put down to Power Engineering.

I accept this could have been taken either way , but I never try to antagonise(sp) other people on the BBS

See you all at the soon to be arranged venue,

Yex

Anders,

I will be down for the South East alternative dyno-day. TDi wont even let you in the workshop when they dyno a car so i would be inclined to avoid them. I think there is another reliable dyno somewhere in West Sussex but can someone confirm?

Anders,

Still awaiting author although it is not really important, I was just interested.

Definitely count me in on the rolling road. Out of further interest, I assume this will have to wait until your car is fixed.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Regards.

Powerstation sounds like a fair alternative, and I'm sure there'll still be a regular day at PE anyway.
I'd be interested to see how the two set-ups compare.
Question is though RichiB.....how much?

Stef.

Yep..I've always thought the £40 was a bit steep at PE for an organised roll-on, roll-off day...
