Can you not get it checked over? Its a *reasonable* prive for a V5 Ive seen garages selling them with warranties for about 15/16K so that maybe a better route. Has he not done anything to the car and kept the bills? It'll be soon due a 45k (if the mileage is correct) service which is costly.

If you intend buying I would get a full report off a specialist to have a good look at it. Also its going to need a big service (read expensive). Personally there are plenty around and I would get one with history as you will have the same problem when you come to sell it.

ha
no history £0.
If it makes you feel better pay extra for it! I know someone who can sell you some history if you like!
Most imports don't have history for good reasons. Get it checked over and it should be fine.

have to disagree with you there. Most imports do have history, for good reason!
You tend to have two types of imports. Those that were imported brand new and those that were imported after the first/second/third owner had sold it in Japan.
The new imports are the easiest to get full history with and are the easiest to veryfy as legit, the better second hand imports should have full history including the japanese service.
If the car has no history at all then that would have me asking LOTS of questions, especially one to see if it has been checked against the interpol stolen car register.

Bought my MY95 WRX from a local importer 2 1/2 years ago - no history because his Japanese agent buys them in bulk and it just didn't come with any history at all - however - it has been checked and is all legit. Over in Japan, people get rid of their cars after 3 years because the emission laws are so tight and agents buy them up for a fraction of the cost.
I would get the car checked but personally (touch wood) I've had no major problems other than the usual wear and tear items - perhaps I'm just lucky.
