Question

I followed a reddish blue MY98 down the A12 this morning (24/1) and it turned off towards Ipswich at the Copdock roundabout.

If the owner's on here -- what polish do you use? I could see my face in the back of that car...

That would be me!

I washed it yesterday, it was absolutely frezzing, but it was dirtier than yours even! I was getting embarassed

It's Zymol'ed of course, nothing else will do. I didn't even wax it yesterday, that I did 2 or 3 times at the end of the summer. Now through winter I just give it a quick rinse and a brisk towel off (the water was freezing on the car if I used the chamios).

Do a search on Zymol if you want to get some more raves. It's quite hard work, but you can see that it's worth it.

Take care
Maf

PS I waved when I first pulled out, you could'a waved back seeing how your are a proper BB man!

I did, but it's much more difficult to see from the front.

I don't know if there's some trick to flashing headlights at other people, but by the time I see a Scoob going the other way it's too late to find the headlight flasher arm. Perhaps I'm still getting used to it...

BTW you missed some bits around the rear numberplate

I shall definitely be getting some Zymol.

I did say it was cold! I didn;t even do my wheels properly.

Yup the Zymol is damn good stuff. Pricey, but you get excellent customer care. I got a half-hour lecture on the phone on how to use it when I ordered it & Mike Tuckwood (high up in the british distributor) monitors this board for questions.

There is another identical MY98 to mine that does the trip from Ipswich to Colchester in reverse to me every day, we wave & flash when we cross. Otherwise wave response is variable. Never flash an old cloth cap, they are no-hopers. Responses off estates are poor, off sports virtually non-exisistant.

From a sad waver (could be worse).

See u on the chat server some time.

Hi Maf

I'm the driver of the other Reddish Blue MY98 you see travelling from Ipswich to Colchester in the mornings!!

I bought the Zymol kit a few weeks ago but so far it's been too cold to try it out - hence filthy state of car.

See you on the A12

Carl

maf has given you all the answers. yes dirt is less likely to stick if you have a good wax skin. he just washes and drys now.

its never tooooooo cold to wax your car. U can use your hand to melt the wax and smear on using bare hands and then buff to high shine.

If you want an info pack, email me and i'll post u one with pleasure.

MAF, you mean Mark Underwood and NOT Mike Tuckwood.

Mark Underwood is the MD of Zymol UK whereas Mike Tuckwood is a partner in Scoobymania.

Robski, another MY99 DBM in Ipswich dont think I've seen you around yet. Dont seem to see many other Scoobys in or around Ipswich at all. Occasionally see one at the station but thats about all. Mind you proabably not helped by only being around realy at weekends.

Sometimes see a green or silver one in Northampton when up at Mum and Dads.

Look forward to seeing you around

Maf,

Yes, that was me again (diverted thru' Ipswich due to fallen over vehicle on A14). I think I baulked you but I was nearly alongside when I saw your brakelights come one.

Anyway, back to Zymol -- does it make the dirt less likely to stick? I got absolutely filthy lifting the bonnet to fill the washer bottle this morning (which seems to have a capacity of about 0.5 litre...)

On the plus side, if you don't wash your wheels for a fortnight they start to look like expensive Anthracite ones

I used to see Phil Gardner (R1NGA -- cool grey STi) around the Copdock interchange at about 8:00 in the mornings -- and I'm sure I saw him parked at BT Labs. Not recently though.

Mark,
It sounds as if your suggesting warming the whole car to 15C with your hands
all be it a bit at a time
You haven't got a deal going with a private doctor specialising in frostbite have you?

Seriously guys currents temps are no problem for waxing. Today I waxed a car and temp was -1C...hardly cold I know. Maybe it must be me or is it you thinking its tooooo cold. Unless u try you'll never know...anyway all the body movement will soon have u in a sweat.

Carl...if u sent me an email today and your surname begins with a W...I have replied 4 times, but each time the message comes back as "undeliverable". Please can you check yer email or mail me again with your address and I will post hard copy to you.

Cool

Maf, since your car is another MY98 I was wondering if you had experienced any of the knocking noises when cold (see 'new noise on start up' posts).

My car has been quite clattery when cold for about 4 months. I've just had it serviced (22.5K) and dealer in Colchester had it overnight for a morning cold start but could find nothing wrong. They used engine flush but it still sounds the same - am I imagining it??!!

Had an engine specialist listen to it today who said definite piston slap in number 4 cylinder.

e-mail me if you can shed any light please.

Chris

I'll be glad when the A137 is open again!!

Hi

ChrisD - Nope, no knocking noises, sorry M8. She does sound a bit rattly when cold, but you expect the cold to have some sort of effect on a motor.

Sorry for mixing up Mark & Mike. Thanks for putting people straight Sunilp.

Mark - Its not the wax working in the cold thats the problem, its me! I was out there with 3 tshirts, 2 Jumpers, an overcoat, a fleecy wooly hat that looks like a rasterfarian's (spelling?) tea cosey and my marigolds to try and protect the hands. (I always like to give the neighbours a bit of a fright ). I think you ought warn the newbies that a proper wash, hd clense & wax for a beginner can take a good 4-6 hours. I'd wait till spring, and do some weights to build up the arm muscles in preparation.

Had a DBM MY00 pass me this morning onto the copdock roundabout. Anyone we know?

There is also a MY99 (dark green I think) I sometimes see parked behind the Tax offices in Ipswich at around 6'o'clock of a night, obviously waiting to pick someone up. Say hi if you are on here.

Woody of Colchester, are you on here? Hows scooby world for you?

Carl - don;t worry m8, I'm having to slow up for corners at the mo, my handling/steering feel have gone off. I'm not sure if my geometry has gone adrift (yet to try the prodrive settings) or whether its just because the tyres are half worn.
