Fake Catalunya
#3
I have come across a 97 Catalunya that I am considering buying. The strange thing is, the console plaque identifies it as number 202. I was led to believe that the last one was 201. Is it a fake? Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys,
Orville, that's what I reckoned also, but I'm sure I read in CAR magazine a few months back about a 22B that was imported into the US that shouldn't have existed. They used it for the Cannonball Rally event that still takes place. Did anyone else see that article.

I think the story goes this way:
Subaru of America wanted to bring in a 22B as a car to send around to automotive magazines, etc as a publicity tool.
All the 22B's were spoken for before SOA could buy one. (Yes, they had to pay full price for it, I understand) SOA got 22B number 13, which would never have been produced otherwise.
Due to import/department of transportation laws in the US, this car will have to be taken off the roads permanently (Possibly stabled at a driving school that Subaru sponsors in Georgia) or crushed under government supervision unfortunately ;(
I live near SOA head offices, so occasionally see the car motoring around when it isn't with the journos.
If #13 is crushed, at least it will not be in vein. She gave her life so that we poor fellows can now have Impreza Turbos! They are to be released here this coming January
Hope this sheds a little light
