Outage, and status

Thank you for all your patience over the last couple of days while we made a number of back end improvements to scoobynet some of which will be coming online shortly.
We spent much of the downtime trying to index all of the posts to enable the search to work effectively, but we need to take further advice as it may be that the size of the database (over 1 million posts) is causing a problem for the indexing. This unfortunately means that search won't be coming back straight away, but we have a lot more information now which means it's not far away.
Thanks again for your patience, it is appreciated.
All the best

About bloody time too. Do you know I have had to do some work, while this site has been down. Please dont let it happen to often, they might get used to me working for a living.

Wouldn't it save some time to not index the Muppet forum? There's hardly anything in there worth searching for (IMHO, of course), and must surely generate a massive index.

At a guess i would say that approx 40% of the posts on the whole BBS are in the muppet forum. However all the posts etc are probably stored in a single table so you can't distinguish the muppet threads other than by the 'forumid'.
Even if those 40% were not indexed it would still take quite a while for the other 600,000 (approx) rows in the DB to index. The hardest part has been done now! the indexes are in place, which should help speed up the search, and its loading on the DB.
Cheers for the updates as you progressed though Simon
