Turbo to P1???????????
#1
I need some advice from learned geezers........I'm considering buying a P1 (2000W....8000 miles) for £28000.......been offered £13500 price-to change from my 99V Turbo....
1. There seem to be anxious owners of P1's......paint problems......far worse than I thought......horrendous running costs even by Scooby standards
2. I drove one last weekend, but the performance did not seem to justify a price hike of 50% over a standard turbo...
Is the P1 really worth it or should I enjoy my current car for longer.......HELP!

hi
i have just bought a p1, 2001 y reg, 1900 miles for £28500, part exd a 97 turbo for £13500, was going for a rb5 wr sport, didnt find the performance increase worth the extra £7500 for that, but the p1 is brilliant, go for it

If you are still thinking about it keep your MY99. I was driving a MY00 PossumLink car. After taking out a P1 I bought it straight away. The running cost should be no differant to a UK Scoob. My insurance went up by £40 but thats about the only differance. It has a bit more power than the MY00 Link but it is so smooth and eager to rev.

Hi
Most of the problems experienced by P1 owners are more superficial than anything else, anyway hopefully I should be able to sort out the paint problem with a bit of luck!
The P1 is a great car, I went from an Evo VI to one and don't regret it.
The price you've been quoted sounds a bit steep, check out this ad I spotted on autoexchange;
01 (X) Subaru Impreza P1 2 door in sonic blue, 280ps 0-60 mph in 4.66 seconds, 17” OZ alloys, air conditioning, trackstar, Cat 1 alarm, 6,000 miles £26,995 (Oakley Garage) 01234 822717 (A05-380)
Don't forget it's a buyers mkt at the mo, so whatever the asking price, you should be able to talk the price down a little further - I did

I said a few weeks ago that P1's were becoming scarce but no0one quite believed it ! I love my baby to bits, full scorpion zorst, itg panel filter, clear side and front indicators, 18" anthracites, big brake conversion, some other minor aesthetic changes, 6 x pods due, quad lights, uprated springs, then onto some engine mods........warranty I hear you all scream..........I've never been used to such a luxury !

Here's my 2 pennith worth,
If you can afford it, get it you will not regret it one little bit. One suggestion I would make (and I am prepared to be flamed on this) is, if you intend to keep the car for a very long time (over 5 years) then go ahead and get the non approved bits added. If you think you might want a change in a year or two then keep it as standard as possible. If you feel the need to upgrade the brakes, wheels, exhaust then only get the bits from the approved accessories list. Why?
Because when you come to sell it you have a better chance of getting a buyer who is prepared to pay the price you want if the car doesn't look like it's been to gadgets 'R' us.
Look at the price of Escort Cosworths, they range from £25,000 for an absolute minter on an N plate to £9,500 for a similar one on an N plate. No prizes for guessing which one is completely original and which one has been round the block a couple of times and has got all kinds of crap stuck onto it.
Just my opinions, and like I said I'm prepared to hear any arguments that can offer any other advice.
Regards
Paul

Or MOD to your hearts (and wallets) content, but keep the original bits to stick back on at re-sale time.

P1 problems are being sorted and are no too major. The car is a fantstic piece of machinery and guranteed to keep you smiling. No matter what everyone says, you will get the looks and attention when ever you pull up in it. I was giving the tour of the car a couple of weeks ago to some avid fans in the car park at Freeport

Whether you keep your car for three years or longer the mods aren't worth anything.
My Terzo has all Prodrive had to offer, Bell & Colville leather and as far as P/ex goes they aren't worth anything. £200 for a PPP. Cheers! Unfortunately I may have to sell the car privately.
And the P1 is a gorgeous car. And you really do notice the difference between the P1 and a UK model.

Buyers market. Tiley's had 3 P1's last week they are all sold and Tiley's are screaming for more but can't get any. There seems to be a rush to grab the last few in Bristol.

Think you might have the wrong figure for Adams. You have only seen the Forecourt P1's not the 7/8 brand new cars hidden away. Looked at them today next to the UK300 they have.

Interesting....I'm considering a smilar switch.
I was at Cheam Motors this morning and they said I could trade in my immaculate (really) 1999 non-Prodrive RB5 for a used P1 (2,000 miles) plus £10k. Do you guys reckon it's worth it? On the face of what DBM is cpntemplating, it appears it is.
The RB5, however, has done less than 8,000 niles.
