Default Key/fob/immobilizer

Hi,

Sorry I'm new didn't know where to post my question so if an admin wants to move it that's ok.

So I bought a bugeye ( came with one key and one immobilizer fob). Due to personal reasons it was put off the road for a few years. Was running and everything was fine with it, But I took my key out of my drawer opened the key up and there's no battery in the actual key. The wee chip is in it. I don't remember taking the battery out of it so previous owner must of done it. I opened the immobilizer fob and replaced the battery in it, but on pressing the button there's no flashing light on it. I popped it open and it was a bit crusty around the button ( the battery didn't look like it had leaked) but the button is not working as in it's not pushing down and popping back up. So #1 would I be right in saying I need a new immobilizer fob and get it matched to the car. #2 if I connect a new battery up to the car would it not start as the fob isn't working. #3 why would the previous owner remove the battery in the key. Has anyone ever had to get a new fob linked up and how much would I be looking at to get say two fobs, and have them linked to the immobilizer and another key cut I have my key number, well I presume it is as it's a wee piece of metal attached to the key with numbers on it.

As it's a Bugeye the Sigma M30 alarm/imobilliser module (assuming it's original and a UK model) was installed on the cars arrival in the UK and the alarm fob takes over control of the central locking previously controlled by the two buttons on the Subaru key - hence no battery required in the key anymore. All done for Thatcham Category 1 security.
The chip in the key is for the OEM immobiliser, controlled by the Subaru immobiliser control unit and the ECU.
Later models had the PCB in the key swapped out so that the fob and key were integrated together and the key's cover changed for a single button version.
If it's been off the road for a few years, the fob battery will be dead and no longer "paired" to the alarm so no longer operating the central locking or alarm - hence the no start.
There are various threads in the electrical and security forums on how to "pair" keys/fobs to the alarm module, however unless you have the PIN code (as you have no working fob) for the alarm it can be a problem to do.
Also the alarm siren backup batteries will probably be dead.
Fobs are still obtainable, try this thread - https://www.scoobynet.com/security-1...l#post12141765

Yes the small metal tag will be the key cutting code, although probably not needed if you get the new key cut and its chip cloned to the original one.

Default Thanks

Thanks Dan Clark,
Would I be better gutting out the immobilizer? I would like to have a back up key and fob just incase.
I was talking to a guy who has a blob and he done away with his alarm/ immobilizer and got something else fitted would I be better doing that or is it overkill, should I check my book and see if I've the code and just get a couple of fobs and get them paired.
It's a local car to me, came from Eastwood motors so if I don't have the code would they have it?
Thanks again.
