Pistonheads best Hot Hatch
It seems that Pistonheads are running a vote for the best Hot Hatch of the last 25 years. Anyone up for getting the Subaru Hatch to top the rankings by voting, deleting the cookies, then voting again etc?

Hmm, I might be biased in this one.

I still think that the original Classic wagon should count as a hatch in all these hot hatch debates.

I would have voted for the Mazda 323 4wd Turbo as well but that was 35 years old this year like the Delta HF Integrale...

The Peugeot 205 GTi wasn't there so I've voted for the next best, a 106 Rallye.

I always though the definition of a 'hot hatch' was to take a regular family car and tweak the engine and suspension. They're not supposed to be rip-snortingly fast like some of the cars mentioned above, they supposed to be cheap and fun! Think Clio rs, XR2, Golf GTi (mk 1&2), R5 GT Turbo; these cars are/were not particular fast but they're incredibly good fun and cheap to boot. Just look at how many Clio's you still see at track days, a decent 182 cup will set you back close to what they were new now too.
An RS3 or A45 for example are over £60k new!! That's a serious wedge and I think a modern hot hatch should probably sit around the £20-25k mark, like a Swift sport or Fiesta ST or something.

they may not be 'fast' in comparison to today's AMG, RS** or whatever BUT they were certainly far quicker than their peers back in the day!!
many an upset caused by a lowly Nova Sport showing various Sierra's, Cavalier's, etc a fine ***........!!

It's an estate.
Clio Trophy will win anyway, well deserved.

It's definitely an estate.
Subaru hatch won't win.
Think the civic will win, well built car, lads are running silly BHP on standard engines.

Neither was called a hatch or an estate. Maybe the Impreza was a Hybrid... That rules them out of the hot hatches either way though.

That would be marketing fella...wagon sounds sexier than estate, and sportback sounds sexier than hatchback

My interpretation also includes a 3door variant.
Pretty much all the old hot hatches were 3door. Nowadays you'll struggle to find one as nearly everything is 5door!

The GR Yaris is a great car for what it is.
