Default New member after advice/Opinion on potential purchase

Afternoon all,

Registered to gain some insight/knowledge etc. Looking at a potential weekend toy/occasional daily driver and this has caught my eye on Autotrader:

2005 Blue Subaru Impreza 2.0 WRX 4dr for sale for £9,000 in WHITLEY BAY, TYNE AND WEAR (autotrader.co.uk)

Im no stranger to Japanese cars, having owned a number of standard and modified Toyota MR2 Turbos, Supras, Mazda MPS etc. Always had an itch for a WRX, but know very little about them. This one seems to have some decent kit fitted, and the price seems reasonable given the times, but before I commit to a 600+ mile roundtrip just after some advice from the folk that know these cars inside out.

Thanks in advance.

Si.

I've owned 7 blob eyes over the past 14 years, 3 UK cars and 4 JDM. An STi is a much more exciting car than a WRX, the biggest difference coming from the 5 speed vs. short ratio 6 speed and also the AVCS heads. If you want a fun and fast weekend warrior, I always pick an STi. You may struggle to find a good one for your budget though.

not bad spec but I will buy sti anyway, even bugeye
Dynamite Dunkhan mapped it , not surprised Eml is there.
Mishimoto -main issue with their rads are caps and their fans.
Ap's will cost 500 quid plus pads and EML thats 1k
10k wrx plus rust to sort

Seems to be a car that is trying to be an STI cobbled together. If the claimed BHP is true, it's being run through the weaker 5 speed box.

To be fair, it's pretty much sailed through MOT's all it's life :

Too many bolt-ons for me, I'm not sure how the Mishimoto brand stands up in the quality dept. Warped front discs...not a great start. I'd at least sort that before selling if it was me...most important thing really.
Would I travel 600 miles for this? No.

I don’t think that bolt ons are necessarily a bad thing personally, but the front discs and pads will cost a lot to sort out, because they’re APs , and also a decaf does not give an EML if mapped properly. Smells fishy IMO.

Keep saving and get an STI. Im sure you could get a decent STI for about 12k.
