Default Standard factory exhaust

My 5th scoobie and 1st with the stock exhaust, will I get the burble I'm missing from changing the back box alone? Or do I need at least cat back?

If UK version than back box should be enough.
Used prodrive will need welding sooner than later ,not enough burble for me.
Genome gives nice burble but price is crazy for used one same like for titanium from s202 sti.
Cobb gives nice burble but rare in UK.
The thing with burble You notice/feel it more outside than inside, its more for viewer than driver.

The mid section replaced as a straight through pipe , will also give more burble and around 30 per cent increase in noise , plus better flow without the need of a re map , so as above , back box first then if that’s not loud enough or enough of a burble then do the mid section too , japspeed stuff is relatively cheap , and decent quality , other options are a used prodrive rear box , hayward and scott do decent stuff but more expensive 👍

Thanks for your answers, it is a uk version 2.5 wrx, I was under the impression a cat back was needed, I've owned imprezas for 18 years solid, brought this 1 with the intention of getting a exhaust done but to be honest I'm enjoying the quiet and missing the burble at the same time, so I will go with the back box for a little sound, I have no plans to tune yet

This approach exactly ! A good back box may well be enough for you.

got my eye on a prodrive box, I nearly brought a quad box cat back sti style but I didn't want to cut the rear diffuser, so glad I never went down that route.

Give me a couple of days to dig it out the loft. Not at home at the minute

Other options are , find a decent exhaust place and get a custom back box made to the noise level you want , prodrive are always well made , hayward and scott not cheap but well made a bit ££ , to get burble with yours I think you are talking a mid section too , but see what you think 👍

I'd go down custom exhaust route, just change out the back box.

Please dont say H&S are good quality

Even the bends are mis shaped, let alone the welding. Nothing is gas purged. And it doesn't fit.

I've been hearing that H&S quality is poor now.
I get the impression they used to be very good? ,,,,,,

I would avoid Milltek too. Horribly expensive and not well made.
The increase in life and cost of modern exhausts has supported a rise in custom exhaust fabricators. They can frequently under price replacements. They do need the car to use as a jig. Quality is obviously dependent on the individual welder.

Black country performance exhausts, good price, it looks great & I'm more than happy with it, has a low Subaru burble on idle and a great roar when you open it up which sounds more similar to a audi s3 or focus rs, and the best thing about it is within the car the sound is non intrusive, need windows down to hear it.
