Default 18 Months Since Last Started

Good Day All,
As the title says I'm gonna be using my car for the first time in about 18 Months, Car hasn't been started in this time and the battery is most likely dead will install a new battery, But do you guys recommend anything else before I crank it over, I've heard unplug the crank sensor and hold your foot on the gas pedal.....is this correct and should I do anything else......appreciate ur Help.....

Sid

pull the maf sensor plug then small turns of the ignition key to crank it but not with the plan to start it , do that a few times , plug maf back in and start it up , oil change on the cards plus any other servicing it needs or has missed , once it’s started then drive off gently till it’s up to full temp , full temp is let coolant fully warm up to the normal point an gauge , double how long that took for coolant took to warm up then that’s the oil warmed up too , you don’t need to sit in a car to warm it up 👍

basically any thing that stops the car starting straight away , if it’s a classic then pull an HT lead , the water pumps i have never changed mine , last one still running at 198k miles , the cambelt tensioner is important to change , as far as i am aware the wrx and sti filling route is the same basically via the gear box dip stick , the front diff on the sti and i assume wrx is linked so fill the box and it will fill the diff , two drain plugs to undo one on the front diff one on the gearbox ,don’t over tighten when you put the drain plugs back in , i know my sti gearbox capacity was around 4 litres , i use a piece of water pipe and a funnel to fill mine , coolant i use a good quality 7 year life red one but i don’t think the colour choice is that important 👍

I would do this:

- socket on crank pulley bolt and hand crank it a turn or two
- disconnect crank sensor (under the alternator, at least on bugeye onwards).
- short bursts of the starter (starting with 0.5s increasing up to about 5 second long bursts), until the oil pressure light goes out
- re-attach cable to crank sensor

I don't think just unplugging the MAF will prevent it from starting?

or pull the fuel pump fuse , as long as it’s cranked a bit before being started that’s the main goal 👍

Pulling the MAF definitely doesn’t stop the car starting. I may have forgotten to plug it back in one time after a filter change
